Dead Island A Zombie Getaway

By Jackson Leung (Mepath), OnRPG Tech WizardIt was Sunday night. My brother and I decided to go to our usual gaming stop; a cyber-cafe on the outskirts of town. It seems like those are the only places you can find them anymore. We were brimming with excitement over this new zombie game called Dead Island. It wasn't long before we fired the game up and assumed our digital identities.I became Xian Mei, the daughter of a Hong Kong inspector, smart, lethal, and deadly. Who, due to the unfortunate circumstance of being a female in a male dominated society, had her talents squandered by being sent to this island resort to observe for criminal activity. Curses. My brother assumed the identity of Sam B. An African American rap star (yes, he's American, the game said he grew up in New Orleans). It was business as usual,预防近视笔, I was partying it up at the resort. After a hard night of partying, I washed down some pills with my liquor and passed out on my bed.I woke up the next morning, did my routine,防近视眼笔, and on the way out, there was something definitely wrong. The hotel's halls were littered with suitcases. Some of these suitcases were randomly dispersed across the floor. Some of these suitcases were piled on top of each other, and some of these suitcases were made into a wall, but for what? I pondered this question as I emptied the suitcases of their contents into my pockets-of-infinite-storage.It was weird, there were hotel rooms left open, blood stains everywhere,防近视笔, and even dead bodies. It must have been some wild party. It was weird, but I was late for work. I took the elevators down, when suddenly; it came to an abrupt stop. The power went out. A sound. The elevator started plummeting down. The doors flew open, and I saw, a person lying on the floor. He was surrounded by people with gray, ashy skin, their bodies showing wounds that by any medical standards were lethal. Seconds later, I noticed that they had said man's intestines in their hands, and in their mouths. At the same moment, these cannibals took great interest to me, and started running towards me. Not a weapon in hand, stuck inside an elevator, and seeing these hoards of blood-thirsty gray people running towards me. I thought it was the end, I'm too young and beautiful to die; tear. The elevator door slammed shut, another sudden drop, and the lights came back on. A voice from the camera offered help. They said I had to run into some maintenance room and obtain a weapon. It's the only way I'm going to live. Shortly afterwards, the elevator opened, and I was at the lobby.I don't know where the maintenance room was, but I'm going to get there quick. Right after I empty these suitcases I found of their contents. But I didn't have enough time for that. It wasn't long until these gray people, which I'll call zombies, took notice of me. I ran as fast as I could, I saw a door leading to a room that didn't look like a hotel room. I made a beeline for it. I ran in front of the door, and then I dove inside. When I came to, I was surrounded by people who were about to knock my head off with a bat. It wasn't until I proved to them that I was capable of coherent thinking that they left me alone. Apparently, I am one of the few people who are immune to the virus, and one of the few people that can be bitten, and not show the same symptoms as everyone else. Sam B is another person with this mixed blessing. The once tropical paradise is now a living zombie nightmare.Together Sam and I took our first steps out into the world of Dead Island. Taking on requests by the islanders in hopes that we can help obtain and accomplish whatever they need to help us get off the island. It wasn't long before Sam and I were bashing in zombie skulls with whatever we could get our hands on. We had to resort to the oars from a boat, a shovel stabbed into the sand, and a kitchen knife pulled fresh from a downed zombie just to name a few of our odd ball weapons. Of course the zombie waves were endless and these primitive weapons wore out to a state of uselessness quickly. We've recovered access cards, rescued wives, recovered medicine, salvaged car parts, and whenever we had a moment of rest, we'd improve our weapons. Whenever we came across some tools left out on some table, we'd use them to strengthen our weapons. Anything even resembling a weapon would quickly fall into our infinite-pockets!We were on the way to restore the lighthouse power generator so that ships out at see can come to our rescue when we heard the sound we both dreaded the most. "Sorry guys, we're now closing. Please log out. I hope guys had fun." We grudgingly logged off the computers and proceeded home, excitedly sharing our thoughts of the game. We will definitely be playing this game again, in fact, I already bought two copies for our home PCs!I am a huge zombie genre fan. So this review reflects mainly my opinion, and will be biased. I have a strong preference for George A. Romero zombie films and Dead Island sucked me into a world just like Romero would have imagined. This game is like a mix of Dead Rising, Dead Rising 2, Left 4 Dead, Resident Evil, and Grand Theft Auto. It had the need to obtain weapons, these weapons also get worn down and break, just like Dead Rising. It had the ability to mess with your weapons, just like Dead Rising 2. It had the zombies chasing you like Left 4 Dead, but unlike left 4 dead, avoided the campy unrealistic occurrence of sudden hordes of zombies arriving. You kind of have venture into areas where zombies are located for them to take notice of you, and then the chasing starts. Finally, there's the atmosphere of Resident Evil. You don't feel like you're going to die any time soon, but you're always concerned that something might kill you. There might be something around the corner, behind that bush, behind you! At the same time, not only are you scared of being killed, you're scared of wasting your precious weapon's durability on killing the damn thing. Finally it resembles GTA in that you can steal and take whatever you need to survive with little worry of legal repercussions.I loved everything about this game, and in my book, this is a must play game for any zombie fan. It's a good single player game, but to get the full experience you MUST play it with friends. Some people say that this game brings nothing special to the table, but really, I'm not sure if there has been another zombie-genre game that has fulfilled this zombie-fan-gamer's desires any better. Dead Rising was great when it came out, Left 4 Dead was intense, and Resident Evil kept me awake at night, but this game has a whole different feel altogether! I feel like I've been on that island, and I've slain those zombies, and I desperately need to get back to the game so that Xian and Sam can leave that island! They need me!The Verdict: Play me now (10/10)* zombies* visuals* sound*zombie bros* atmosphere* realism* open-world environment*zombie room service* their first trailer* the list goes on...* I can't really think of any. Perhaps if the graphics were more realistic, then when that day comes where I finally bash my computer screen in after losing a match of Starcraft, I could use Dead Island as a reactionary excuse.I'm always lurking the forums and redesigning OnRPG. Feel free to say hi.

Starcraft 2 Journey To Diamond League

 。

 。

Being in bronze league means you will rarely play epic matches because they are often full of all-ins and cheese. This means they will pump out units very early and not focus on developing a good economy. I play as a Zerg who is not very aggressive early on and hopes to create longer macro oriented games. This means that I will quickly setup multiple expansions and develop many workers early on to maintain many bases. Army units are seldom built until later on unless necessary to counter an aggressive opponent.。

 。

I was sure I had lost the game because almost all my drones at my expansions were gone but thankfully he was still on one base. He did not quit coming at me with banshees and eventually Vikings, so I thought it was a good idea to build some mutalisks. This way I could harass his only base which would drastically reduce his income and kill off his air army.  With my ground and air army, I marched to his base, broke his wall and went right for the starports. I did not want to fight more air units, I hate them. He conceded after losing his starports.。

 。

Be sure to check out Kluey's Starcraft II Review if you're not familiar with the game! http://www.onrpg.com/MMO/Starcraft-II/review/Starcraft-2-Wings-of-Liberty---RTS-Perfection。

I was minding my own business mining on my three bases when the Terran decided to send some banshees my way. Keep in mind that unlike Terran and Protoss, Zerg have limited options to counter air early on. Air units appear frequently in bronze league so I built some evolution chambers early on just in case. These allow me to build spore crawlers which are the static air defense for the Zerg race.。

This is the beginning of a new series here at OnRPG, “My Journey to Diamond League”. These bi-weekly articles will record my matches and progress in Starcraft II. My goal is to advance from the bronze league to diamond. Due to the length of this article, the first column will be split into a 2 part series.。

 。

 。

 。

After watching MLG, I hopped back on Starcraft and used some of the new tricks I learned from the players and streamers. Now I am rank 8 bronze in my division, this is where my journey will begin.。

 。

My final game this week was against another Terran.  After learning that I should always scout with overlords and run up his ramp from time to time, I saw that he was just getting mass marines and marauders. I later found out he also had tanks. Since he was only on one base, I had a big economic advantage. He did not bother attacking early on, as most people do when on one base so I went ahead and setup four bases.。 。

I believe that I am good at video games. I can rank high in various genres including FPS,MMO and MOBA. What makes Starcraft different from the other genres is that you must manage more than one unit at a time. My one gaming weakness is multitasking; hopefully I will improve by playing Starcraft II.。

 。

 。

 。

His marine, marauder and tank army was no match for my roaches and banelings. While he did hold steady through my first assault, I was able to reinforce my army because of my massive income from four bases. The second assault overwhelmed his remaining defenses.。

While it is true that I have not played a lot of Starcraft before, I did play a couple of hours of Starcraft II when I bought it a couple months ago. I did not find myself playing it a lot because I was not enjoying myself. After seeing the pros play at MLG with their incredible speed and unique play styles, I was tempted back to the league.。

By Mohammad Abubakr, OnRPG Journalist。

 。

 。

 。

If an opponent is aggressive early on and continues attacking the same base it is considered to be an all-in. If I am able to hold off these acts of aggression, I will be able to overrun him with high quality massed units produced by my stronger economy. Sometimes opponents are smart and continue to develop an economy while forcing you to build army units to hold off attacks. This results in them getting ahead of you economically while throwing you off your game. This seldom happens in Bronze league because this league consists of new and less skilled players.。

My second game that same day was versus a Terran. While he did have a good plan to harass me with reapers it was not well executed on the micro level. He stood around with his reapers for too long to the point where I could easily fend off any harassment. Since he only focused on constructing one base and poked me ineffectual harassment, I continued to develop my economy. I achieved victory by destroying his main base with zerglings and banelings. I might have lost the game if he attacked me with his reapers because I was not building an army at that time. Keep in mind that reapers can jump over walls, so he could have easily harassed me multiple times without losing any units.。

 。

 。

 。

The ranking system is divided into seven leagues. These are bronze, silver, gold, platinum, diamond and masters. You might notice that I have only listed six; we will come to the seventh league later on. You may be promoted to these leagues based on your hidden matchmaking rating. This rating goes up or down depending on your matches. It does not increase by a set value so it is nearly impossible to calculate. A victory over a better opponent will award you with more points while a loss to a worse opponent will result in losing more points. When you begin the game, you must play five placement matches. Your initial rank will be decided based on your performance throughout these games.  You may not view your win to loss ratio until you achieve master’s league. Also, each league is divided into separate divisions which each include 100 players. The final league is called the grandmasters league and this league only includes the 200 top players on the server which are selected by Blizzard.。

When I first did my placement matches I was surprisingly placed in silver league but due to my lack of knowledge, I got kicked down to bronze. That is the point at which I quit playing because I was busy with other games but frustration might have been a factor. I do not like losing.。

 。

Two days later I was put up against a Terran. I almost pulled an Idra (In case you did not get the reference, Idra is a professional player that left a won game because he thought he was behind.)。

 。

My opponent tried his best to delay his inevitable defeat by hiding buildings and setting up a lot of static defense. If he was really in such a hurry to progress to his next game, he should have surrendered sooner because the writing was on the wall early on.。

In simplest terms, Starcraft II is a game where the player must build up an army to take out his opponents buildings. Once all buildings have been destroyed the player loses. However, games will rarely get to the point where you are destroying all buildings. Players simply concede upon realizing the game is lost.。

 。

 。

I employed one of the key strategies in Starcraft II during my first game; build up a good economy.  My opponent was also a Zerg player but he did not want to develop his economy. His aim was to end the game quickly so he can move on to another match. Since bronze players often try to finish games quickly, I had setup static defense in the form of spine crawlers. His zerglings fell one by one to my superior defensive structures while my army of workers brought in huge hauls of crystal. I used this to my advantage and continued to enhance my own economy.。

 。

 。

 。

 。

 。

Now, let us dive right into the games.。

 。

 。

I am not happy that I did not gain any ranks this week. I was busy with school exams so I did not have a lot of time to play Starcraft. In part 2 I will cover my second week and the beginning of my rise to Silver League! Look forward to seeing it early next week!

Rusty Hearts First Impressions

By Michael Sagoe (Mikedot), OnRPG JournalistPerfect World Entertainment is laying some new cards on the table with their newest title, Rusty Hearts. Developed by Windysoft and Stairway games, Rusty Hearts combines full-3D arcade beat ‘em up action, while mixing things up with a solid anime and manga art style. As slick and sexy as this one looks, arcade action MMOs are becoming more common these days. It’s now increasingly difficult for any new ones to stand out. Rusty Hearts isn’t showing signs of being timid though and is geared up with enough reflectors and flashy effects to make it stand out from a million miles away.It sure seems like style is the main essence of Rusty Hearts, because just from the login screen alone, I was blasted with a sense of awe and wonder. Once I selected my server and channel, the stars of the show slowly started walking past the screen.Leading the troop of heroes was Frantz Kruger, a suave swordsman who’s half human, half vampire. Following Frantz was Angela Strraugend, a peppy witch that uses possessed great swords and scythes. Last one behind the group was Tude MacCloud. Sounds like your typical everyman, but Tude uses gauntlets and claws to tear his enemies a new one.And from the group of heroes, you could see the misty shadow of another, currently unplayable female character. She already has her name up and such, so I assume she will join these heroes soon enough.Though I was leaning towards Angela, I decided to give Frantz a go for my first couple of runs. Right from the get-go, the game attempts to immerse me into the world with a story cutscene showcasing Frantz and the gang fleeing from a huge monster. After that, it was mandatory tutorial time!Getting a grip on the game’s controls was no biggie, as the control scheme felt and played similar to another popular action MMO. Midway during the tutorial, I decided to whip out my PS2 controller and USB converter to give the gamepad functions a try. Surprisingly, the gamepad function worked out great (for the most part) with the only issue being the dodge stick wasn’t mapped properly (pressing down on the stick made my character dodge left, pressing up made me dodge left, etc.) It seems to me that gamepad support was made with Xbox 360 controllers in mind first. Regardless, this little error can easily be fixed if they would give us the option to re-map control functions manually. There seems to be a huge focus on story telling here, which I can’t really say I’m fond of since there seems to be no voice acting during cutscenes, making things a bit difficult to keep up with. Just a little bit of voice acting during the major cut-scenes would be nice and would help out with the story telling, since I won’t have to squint my eyes towards the bottom right hand corner of the screen. But enough about storytelling, let’s focus on what matters: The gameplay. While the game has a pretty unique flair, it was really hard for me to play through this one without having that other popular arcade action MMO pop into mind: Tapping the basic attack button performs a short and easy combo. While using the skills assigned from A-through-H at the right time, I was able unleash longer combo strings and juggles with ease. You can jump and perform attacks in mid-air, but they’re kind of ineffective, so I didn’t really use them as much. I am fond of the subtle defensive option of being able to block attacks and counter attack when guarding at the right moment.Unlike some action MMOs where you’re stuck fighting on a 2D plane, Rusty Hearts makes use of the 3D environments for some light exploration and interactivity. The dungeons I trekked through and the monsters I faced seemed pretty average at first, but I pressed onward just to check out more of what the game had to offer. This one boss battle had me fighting against a giant lobster monster that was tearing up platforms and such. The best way of taking it out was to freeze it using some kind of ice cannon, but you had to be quick about firing off the shot, otherwise you would get frozen in the process.Needless to say, it was an intense and frustrating battle. After several dungeon runs, things were getting a bit stale, but the experience picked up for me once I hit LV10, at which point I was already decked out with some awesome skills. I was able to switch up my character’s weapon style at LV10, trading in my light sword for a heavy but powerful axe. It was also time for me to jump into some PvP action! Rusty Hearts’ PvP features a handful of everyday gameplay modes such as Free-For-All, team deathmatch, tag team, ladder match, etc. Starting up a game is quick and easy with its own neat little interface, plus matches are hosted in your very own room. After several matches in Free-For-All and Tag Team, I got a general feel for the character balance. Tude players can use juke movements to hone in, pressure and punish enemies. Angela players can keep enemies at bay using a bevy of magic attacks at close and mid-range, and Frantz players will go all out by juggling enemies like crazy.Overall, I’d say Rusty Hearts is shaping up to be pretty stellar experience. If they can deliver an interesting story along with challenging gameplay, Rusty Hearts could very well be the next top contender for action MMOs, pouring with style and substance. For more information on Rusty Hearts check out our Game Profile for some Developers Diary videos and ColbyCheeze's impressions!

Diablo III Countdown Character Classes

By Remko Molenaar (Proxzor), OnRPG JournalistFrom now on I will be writing a series of articles until the release of Diablo 3. I will be talking about several features in the game that are quite unique and aren’t used in many role playing games. Diablo is a known franchise made by Blizzard Entertainment and is popular because of its unique role playing hack and slash game style. Diablo 2 has been a very popular game throughout the years and still has a solid community playing it every day. Now the question is ‘What will make Diablo 3 much better than its previous title’? I will give you an introduction about the many aspects Diablo 3 has announced, and show you what might make this game one of the best role playing games ever released. The game was first confirmed on June 28 in 2008 and since then a lot of videos and screenshots have shown us some jaw dropping features that every RPG fan has been waiting for since the invention of MMOs.. In the first series I will be talking about the story and the current announced classes in Diablo 3.The game takes place in Sanctuary, this is the dark fantasy world known in the Diablo series. This world was saved twenty years prior by a handful of unnamed heroes in Diablo 2. Warriors that have survived the onslaught brought by the armies of the Burning Hells have gone mad from their ordeals. It is now up to the new generation of heroes to face the forces of evil threatening the world of Sanctuary.Diablo 2 was known to have the following classes: The Amazon,福州贷款, Necromancer,福州担保, Barbarian,福州担保公司, Sorceress and Paladin. Later in the expansion the Druid and Assassin were introduced into the world of Diablo 2. There are currently five classes announced for Diablo 3 but there might be more added into the game. The current five announced classes are the:The Witch Doctor is a new character reminiscent of the Diablo 2 Necromancer, but his skills are different and are more associated with the voodoo culture. The Witch Doctor has several abilities that make this class a lot of fun to play. The class is able to summon monsters, cast curses, harvest souls and hurl poisons plus explosives at his enemies. Blizzard stated the following about the Witch Doctor,福州担保公司, “The Witch Doctor is not another version of the Necromancer.” They may incorporate the Necromancer in a future expansion if they so desire. To power spells the Witch Doctor uses mana, which regenerates slowly.Video youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMbagdEF1tc The Barbarian is an original class played in the previous Diablo games and is known for his close combat fighting style. The Barbarian is a powerful melee fighter with several powerful skills that makes sure the player is always engaged in life and death action. This class is capable of dual-wielding weapons and his combat masteries allow him to specialize in different types of weapons. The Barbarian is able to use several awesome skills and powerful strikes such as whirlwind and leaping strikes. The Barbarian uses fury as his energy resource, which is generated by attacking enemies, getting attacked by enemies and through several abilities. Fury degenerates when not in a combat state.Video Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byy723gTSQQ The wizard is a changed version of the sorceress in Diablo 2. The Wizard has abilities involving casting lightning, fire and ice at their enemies, often resulting in terrible status effects. They are also able to slow time and teleport which makes this class quite versatile. The Wizard fuels his spells with Arcane Power. Arcane Power is a fast regenerating power source that will help the Wizard with his spells.Video Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbsODnb1VYo When you will think about the Monk you would probably think about a healing supporting class. This is not the case in Diablo 3; the monk is a melee close combat fighter specializing in martial arts. The Monk is able to cripple foes, resist damage, deflect projectiles, and attack with a blinding speed and land explosive killing blows. It combines the Diablo 2 assassin class with the holy warrior role of the Paladin. The Monk is fueled by Spirit, which has defensive purposes and is slowly generated through attacking, though it does not degenerate which makes this a powerful melee fighter to watch out for.Youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31VpcWV2R9E The Demon Hunter is a class that uses crossbows as its main weapon; they are also able to throw small bombs at enemies as a means of defensive CC. Some of the skills have been revealed and among them is the arrow skill, Chain Arrow. The Demon Hunter is fueled by Discipline and Hatred. Hatred is a fast regenerating source that is used for his offensive attacks while Discipline is a slow regenerating resource used for defensive abilities.Video Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6_eZgxWU24 Currently we haven’t seen everything about every class yet. We have seen some gameplay videos but it’s clear that Blizzard has quite a few tricks still up their sleeves. Since no Diablo III release date is announced yet, I still have time to bring you updates sharing the tid bits being thrown out to appease the masses. The current list of classes however look superb and I cannot wait to try them out. Every class has its unique style of playing that makes this game a different experience with each character you play.Next article I will be discussing the extensive rune concept of Diablo III and how it can completely overhaul your skills!

Katamari Damacy Announced For The PlaySta

Katamari DamacyNews (1)PreviewsReviewVideosScreenshotsCheats and Walkthroughs Namco Bandai announced that a new version of Katamari Damacy is coming for the PlayStation Vita. The game is just called Katamari Damacy for now,福州担保公司, and according to Namco, the game "will use the console’s unique front touch screen and rear touch pad to bring fingertip control to the series for the first time."You'll once again be playing as the adorable Prince as the King of All Cosmos sends you on tasks to roll up just about everything. You'll be rolling up items large and small, inanimate and alive, from ants all the way up Mount Fuji. With the Vita version of the game, you'll be able to use the rear touch pad of the system to stretch the ball horizontally or vertically to pick up more objects or squeeze through gaps. From Dust smashes day-one sales record fo

Gamers like to play God, it seems, as Ubisoft confirms its new God game, From Dust, has set a new sales record for the publisher. According to Ubisoft, the game sold more copies on its first day on sale than any previous digital title from the French publishing giant. Without providing exact figures, the firm says day-one sales of From Dust beat the company's former best-selling XBLA title by a margin of 45 percent. The game sees players take the roll of a deity capable of manipulating the land, which you must do to help your tribes thrive and protect them from an abundance of natural disasters. The game received rave reviews across the board (except from Destructoid) prior to its July 27 release. Mike Jackson

Force Unleashed dev making open-world RPG

A job ad tweeted by Clint Hocking, formerly of Ubisoft and currently creative director at LucasArts, has revealed the company is working on a new open-world RPG. The job listing doesn't give much away other than the genre of the game, although it asks for console development experience so a PlayStation and Xbox release is a safe bet.The last game to be released from LucasArts' game development team was Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2, which was met with less than stellar review scores.Hocking previously served as Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and Far Cry 2 creative director before leaving the company for LucasArts last April. RuneScape Clan Citadels expansion launche

Jagex has released the massive Clan Citadels expansion for its popular free-to-play MMO RuneScape. The update allows RuneScape's clans to build their own floating citadel, a customisable castle in the sky for players to meet, socialise and develop their own games using a new sandbox battlefield editor.Any clan with five or more members can take ownership of their own citadel and start creating user-generated combat scenarios and multiplayer games."Clans can create any activity, including simple capture-the-flag games, deathmatches, ball games, mazes, and any combination of these," Jagex says. "Once the battlegrounds are fine-tuned, players can challenge other clans to participate in large-scale battles and competitions."Each clan's Citadel can be upgraded through seven tiers, unlocking more space, skilling hotspots, impressive elements and special features. These include skilling zones, portal grounds, meeting areas, a senate, dragon perch, and party room." RuneScape VP Daniel Clough adds: "Today is a historic day for RuneScape, as we release the biggest expansion of the year and our largest ever community update. We have been looking for a unique and innovative way to provide new multiplayer features to the game, and we are hugely excited to see what the community makes of this update."The popularity of our in-game clans is staggering, with more than 1.3 million players signing up since our last clan update in April and, as you would expect, the level of anticipation for this update is unprecedented. Our ambitious plan has always been to make RuneScape's clan support the envy of the MMO world, and we are confident that Clan Citadels can do just that."

Star Wars The Old Republic Is Still Prob

Star Wars: The Old RepublicNews (112)Previews (33)ReviewVideos (158)Screenshots (177)Cheats and Walkthroughs BioWare wants to calm down fans who are fretting over comments made by Electronic Arts CFO Eric Brown during a recent investor call that suggested we won't be seeing the upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic MMORPG until next year. The plan is still for a late 2011 release, studio community manager Stephen Reid wrote in a website update, noting that the game is in "active and extensive testing."Reid allows for the possibility that a delay could occur, which he says is the reason Brown offered a different outlook, but he encourages fans to remain optimistic. "A possibility doesn't mean a certainty," he wrote."Despite what doom-sayers may try and tell you, we are still very much aiming to ship in the holiday 2011 window (AKA, before the end of the year)," he continued. "We're pushing out a major new build, we're getting in our external testers to look at it soon, and then we'll re-start our Game Testing Weekends."So don't go crazy and embrace the Dark Side just yet. After all, we're talking about the developer of Knights of the Old Republic here. The Force is strong with this one.Source: BioWare

TimeSplitters 4 'to be announced soon' -

Crytek is on the verge of announcing the return of the TimeSplitters franchise with a new game. That's according to a rumour in the latest issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine UK, on sale now."Gun-wielding monkeys are finally making a comeback! A fourth Timesplitters title is to be announced soon," it says in its rumours section. The TimeSplitters FPS series has been on a hiatus since the 2005 release of the third game, TimeSplitters: Future Perfect on PS2, Xbox and GameCube. A fourth game has, however, been rumoured for some time, most recently by a report citing a 'high-ranking industry source at Crytek' which claimed development on the fourth game is underway with a plan for its release on the next-gen PlayStation 4 and Xbox 3 consoles. Developer Crytek UK - originally Free Radical before Crytek rescued it from meltdown - officially confirmed to CVG back in 2007 that work on Timesplitters 4 had begun. It even released concept art before its long-time no-show stirred up rumours of its cancellation.

Gears of War 3 'Season Pass' revealed

Microsoft has revealed a way for you to purchase DLC for Gears of War 3 that you've not seen yet. The 'Season Pass' is a 2400 MS Point (£20, $30) purchase that gets you four DLC packs that Epic will release for the game over the course of the next year. Those willing to pay actual money for products not even made yet will get an exclusive Liquid Metal Weapon set for their madness, and will in the long run will apparently pay 33 per cent less than someone who buys all the same DLC AFTER they've seen it and made the choice to pay for it separately. Sure, if you're mad for Gears of War and will inevitably take anything and everything Epic throws at you then it makes perfect sense. The Season Pass will be purchasable from launch on September 20. Microsoft says the first of the four DLC packs will be out in November. Mike Jackson

Shrek and other DreamWorks characters go

DreamWorks and Activision have announced DreamWorks Super Star Kartz, a racing game staring DreamWorks characterz such az Shrek that, we're sure, will be NOTHINGZ like Mario Kart. At allz. Nopez. 14 characters from DreamWorks' movies Shrek, Madagascar, How To Train Your Dragon and Monsters Vs. Aliens will turn up for arcade races in which you'll be able to "speed, jump, power-up and boost" through karting courses no doubt based on environments from the films. It'll also have stunts, weapons and "hilarious" commentary from Madagascar lemur King Julien. Battle, Circuit and Time Trial modes will feature, along with four-player split-screen multiplayer "on consoles". There's no mention of online play or any multiplayer for handhelds, which is worrying.DreamWorks Super Star Kartz, with a 'z' because they didn't get the memo about random 'z's in titles not being cool anymore, will be out 'this holiday season' for DS, 3DS, Wii, Xbox and PS3. The Amazing Spider-Man Movie Getting A Ga

Activision and Beenox released Spider-Man: Edge of Time just 10 days ago. Meanwhile, we're just eight months away from the release of director Marc Webb's film reboot for Sony Pictures, The Amazing Spider-Man. Beenox, which also developed last year's Spidey game, Shattered Dimensions, is now busy working on a game based on the upcoming movie. The confirmation comes in the form of a poster at Activision's New York Comic Con booth, as spotted by IGN. The movie will be released on July 3, 2012 and it's reasonable to assume that the game might be coming at around the same time. Dead Island 'Bloodbath Arena' DLC out thi

Deep Silver has confirmed that the first download pack for Dead Island will be released in late September. The DLC, titled 'Bloodbath Arena', lets players fight endless waves of zombies in four deadly new areas. It also contains a new gun, the 'Brain Wave Bomb', which sounds delicious. Actions performed in this mode will give you XP that can be carried over to your main campaign, which makes it the perfect place to grind up your stats should you need some extra help. If you got the Special Edition version of the game you'll get the DLC free. No price has been given for everyone else. Developer Techland has apologised to fans today, once again, after a gamer dug around in Dead Island's hidden data and found a line of code that names a 'feminist wh*re' skill for the female character Purna. This is the second time in one week the folks behind Dead Island have found themselves apologising on behalf of the zombie shooter, after early purchasers through Steam discovered they were accidentally served a disastrously buggy development version of the game. Early Access Core Blaze Part 2

By Darren Henderson (DizzyPW), OnRPG Editor-In-ChiefAnother day is coming to an end and its time to get deeper into the Unreal world of Core Blaze. In yesterday's article I offered a teaser of some of the challenges waiting players in Core Blaze as well as touched on the classless character weapon combination system. It's now time to give a detailed look into the deep control system and character progression.Core Blaze is all about forcing players to think on their feet and utilize all their options simultaneously to overcome dreadful bosses. This involves a toggle of skills on one side of the controller and a toggle of items on the other side. Out of all of the console controller tie ins I have experienced in MMOs, this felt the most well thought out.One joystick to control your character, one joystick to rotate the camera, the R2 button to dodge/roll/defend, the R1 and L1 buttons to open your skill or item menu and then hot buttons with A, B, X and Y to quickly choose items and skills out of your list, B acting as jump and A acting as an activation function skill, and X and Y acting as basic auto attacks. X and Y may also be combined to use more powerful auto attacks or in unison with jump and controller movement to unleash a variety of auto attack patterns.By preassigning your skills to A, B, X or Y in three scrollable sets players can quickly use the console controller to scroll through up to 12 skills in rapid fire succession. The same was true for the item menu, although I have some complaints with this system that I will discuss later.Combat in Core Blaze happens so fast that players must be able to set their control scheme to muscle memory in order to utilize their attacks and combo them effectively. While you can mindlessly hack a lone monster to death, their tendency to group up makes standard 'beat-em-up' combat the fastest way to get yourself killed in this game (aside from tripping off a ledge like our showgirl did at one point). Try defending yourself against a hoard of zombies encircling you with your one-handed shield and tell me how well it works out!So what is an MMO gamer to do when three-fourths of the classes are melee based? Utilize weaponized items. These come in the form of flash grenades, concussive grenades, mines, torches, grappling hooks, and a ton of other items I wasn't privy to experience in our short time with the game.Flash grenades and concussive grenades offer melee characters a way to safely get into melee combat while their enemies by confusing them from a distance with explosive ranged items. Mines are ideal for archers to set traps against foes that are difficult to stun. Torches can be used to not only set enemies on fire but also set the environment on fire, burning your enemies to a crisp in the process. For example, Liang Qu the blue tiger from the Core Blaze trailer creates a shield of spiked ice around him continually that makes engaging with him head on suicide. However, a well placed flash grenade to his face can stun and blind him long enough to allow your melee team to run in and puncture a few well placed holes in his stomach. This game feels more akin to a game of chess than checkers though as all of your actions are not only limited by the speed you can deliver them, but also the spirit bar and stamina bar. The spirit bar acts as your base stamina system, with every skill requiring a large amount of spirit to cast. The stamina bar represents your character's ability to engage in continuous combat, with it draining after each skill, auto attack, and item used, and only regening while out of combat with your foes. This made tanking quite an interesting occupation in this game because shielding was only an option for so long while holding the boss' agro. But dropping your guard can be near fatal, forcing you to rely on your team to draw the boss' attention before you reach the limits of your stamina and THEN rushing back and spamming through your stamina before the boss finishes crushing your teammates.Outside of the pure ecstasy of combat lies a dynamic world map filled with dozens of cities, and surprising events around every turn. While many MMOs claim this, they unfortunately eventually become dull due to players creating wikis, mapping out all the 'surprises,' and quantifying everything into mathematical predictable formulas and schedules. What a drag MMO players are!RedGate Studios loves the initial feeling players get when stepping into a new game so much that they put great effort into preventing players from feeling this lull of 'been there and done that.' To do this they first started by using their amazing graphics engine to produce day and night, as well as various weather conditions. While day and night may be predictable, the weather is randomized to keep players on their toes. While the graphical changes of these two factors might be aesthetic, they certainly aren't enough to keep players intrigued beyond the first few times you encounter them. As such they took it a step further and made it so monsters would differ between day and night, and some monsters would only appear in the rain, while others might only appear on a rainy night. Now compound this with a detailed time system, and the developers can make a world boss that appears at 3am on an unnaturally windy morning! Then consider that they can constantly change the requirements of when these monsters appear, or even add special public quests events that might trigger in these time frames and weather conditions, changing each week and constantly throwing players off.The system in place for Core Blaze opens a whole new level of evolution into the MMO world. No longer will players be able to set their watches and predict their gaming environment around them. A portion of crafting may even be involved in finding rare treasure chests that spawn randomly around the map due to given circumstances.Yet another twist comes about with Core Blaze's unique way of blocking players from having access to the entire world from the beginning. Certain tools, such as the hook shot, make it so players can access new levels of the world previously blocked to them. This system is by far a superior system than most MMOs that arbitrarily set portals with level requirements to limit players. Now you will actually see players hook their way across a large gap or up a cliff face and wonder 'wow, I can't wait to find out what's up that hill.' While the hook shot was the only item of this mentioned at the meeting, they promises there were tons more exploration based items to be unlocked within the game.In terms of crafting, I have to step a little outside the bounds of what was told to us at Gamania's Show. I feel that this speculation is justified by putting 2 and 2 together. They told us that crafting of weapons, armor, and healing as well as active weaponized items is all possible in the game. They also told us that exploration is limited and that rare resources can be found on the world map. Then they told us that monsters can be damaged in unique ways based on certain attacks, such as chipping teeth off of the tiger Liang Qu with a well placed sword attack to his mouth (which in turn makes him rage and go into berserk mode). It makes sense then that crafting in this game will involve not only exploration of the map and boss battles, but having the skill to inflict damage in certain ways to certain bosses (that may only spawn during the night on a rainy day on weekends) to collect all the requirements for crafting the ultimate weapon. How great a throwback would it be to older games to see players crafting rare armors that not only are their rivals too poor to craft, but might not even have the skill/knowledge to acquire the mats for these items. As I said, this is a bit of speculation, but with a game where the limits of known MMOs are being pushed, I think I'm allowed to dream. The last bit of news I can share about Core Blaze is that it uses an atypical progression system that throws levels out the window in exchange for combat experience, achievements, and weapon experience. By clearing dungeons and fighting battles, you character will level up, but Producer Jacky Chu emphasized that this was not a flat statistical level up so much as a symbol of your experience to other players. True statistical improvements come from acquiring better weapons and better equipment. Your skills can improve and allow you to unlock new skills from fighting multiple battles with your weapon of choice. This type of system is not unique to the MMO world, but it certainly reserved to a select few pioneers of the industry such as DarkFall Online. However just like the team behind Langrisser Schwarz, Core Blaze assured us that they wouldn't be rewarding players for doing the mundane like running their head into a wall to build endurance. As such limitations are placed on both skill and equipment types you can wear based on an achievement system.Jacky Chu described the achievement system as a type of martial arts belt ranking for your character. There are various types of martial arts one can study, and being good at one doesn't necessarily guarantee you are a master of a different form. However without these belts a player may find themselves too weak to equip a larger bow, or too clumsy to unleash a high flying aerial technique. This forces players to seek out all the challenges of the world and accomplish them one by one to unlock the full potential of their character. Now as much fun as it is to hype this game, my write-up wouldn't be complete without pointing out the flaws. The game isn't released in North America yet.. such a huge flaw! Besides this, the control scheme is a bit awkward in its current implementation. I disliked having to place my supportive and healing items on the same three tiered menu set as my attack items. This game is far too fast paced to give you time to scroll through a set of hp and mp potions to activate a grenade and then aim the grenade at the enemy. I need a faster way to utilize these items! It's also quite annoying that you pretty much lose all menu interface when getting smacked around by a monster because it's impossible to move and scroll through your items effectively at the same time. This can easily be resolved by either making a separate button (perhaps select) that opens a menu dedicated to offensive items, or even by allowing you to add your favorite offensive items to your skill menu. Vice-versa, some defensive skills would feel more at home next to my healing potions. There was no mention of customization of these menus at the press event and I certainly hope they make it in for the game's full release because this was a serious flaw holding back my full enjoyment of the action combat.Although I wish I could tell more about the game, I've more than exhausted the lengths of my current knowledge. The North American press was persistent enough to get the development team to hint at a hardcore PvP system as well as organized GvG and castle raids, but that was all they were willing to share. After seeing all the games present at the Gamania Show I feel that the wait for 2012 has just became longer than ever. And OnRPG will do our part to continue taunting you with great games to make it worse in the near future.

Deus Ex Human Revolution dev diary shows

Square Enix has released a new developer diary for Eidos Montreal's Deus Ex: Human Revolution focusing on stealth gameplay. As lovers of all things Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell this style of combat is definitely piquing our interest. As you'll see in the developer diary below, hero Adam Jensen can be kitted up to the teeth with augmentations that increase his prowess when out of sight. If you want more Deus Ex footage, check out another of the 'Four Pillars of gameplay' movies.

Yakuza Dead Souls Trademark Suggests Wes

Sega's zombified Yakuza game, Yakuza: Of the End, arrived in Japan on June 9 of this year. Fans of the series in other parts of the world have been waiting for some news of a global release, and it seems that they might soon have an answer.Sega picked up a trademark in Europe for Yakuza: Dead Souls (via CVG), which seems like a safe bet as a more English-speaking audience-friendly title for the zombie-infused Yakuza game. This is in no way confirmation that a Western Of the End release is coming, but it's a good start. The Yakuza series is a funny beast. Part-open world RPG, part-brawler, part-minigame fest, part-something completely unclassifiable, it is capable of hitting any number of gaming pleasure centers in the space of a single hour. Adding zombies to that mix seems like a recipe for awesome; here's hoping fans in the U.S. and Europe get to find out.Source: OHIM (search trademark number 010291482)

Star Wars The Old Republic, Battlefield

EA has revealed record-breaking pre-orders for Battlefield 3 and Star Wars: The Old Republic ahead of their respective launches this October and this "holiday". According to the publisher's CEO John Riccitiello, pre-orders for DICE's shooter "are tracking extremely well", at more than ten times the rate of those the publisher saw for Battlefield: Bad Company 2.Meanwhile, the company says BioWare's MMO has broken EA pre-order records.According to Cowen & Company analyst Doug Creutz, channel checks "indicate that [Battlefield 3] pre-orders are roughly comparable to those of Call of Duty: Black Ops last year, which has gone on to sell over 20 million units", although not as strong as those for Modern Warfare 3.EA started taking pre-orders for Star Wars: The Old Republic last week, when it detailed three separate editions of the game.

Early Access Realm of the Titans Pre-CB P

At the press event, there were two maps available for play. They are called Titan’s Eye and Omeka Divide. Omeka Divide is your standard 3 lane map designed for 5v5 combat albeit with one of the most winding and confusing jungles known to MOBA games. The goal of the map is also pretty typical. Push the enemy back to their control points, statues that occasionally spawn minions on steroids, then turn these control points on your enemy and destroy their base core to win. But for those looking for something a little more unusual, Titan’s Eye is for you.。

If you’re looking for even more of a whacky goal to shoot for in a game, take a look at Realm of the Titans’ achievement list. Here you will find some off the wall challenging goals to aim for in a game such as earn 6 kills in 30 seconds or go 20 minutes in a game without buying boots of speed. Some of the more difficult achievements will even unlock special titles that can be worn above your head in-game to intimidate your foes. Of course this led the press to question if these achievements might cause people to throw games while pursuing their non-win related goals. Travis assured us this would not be an issue because your achievement is voided out if you earn it but lose the game.。

For those few who are still in the dark about Multiplayer Online Battle Arenas, I say to you.. for shame! MOBAs are built around short session combat in which two teams duel it out to kill each other and, ultimately, destroy the enemy’s base. Along the way you earn gold to purchase various items that add a real strategic feel to the genre unlike anything else offered in the MMO world. The easier way I can explain it to someone not in the know is that it feels like you are a powerful minion in a 2 sided tower defense game.。

Now my first reaction when I learned of the 59 total champions was ‘why not release them at launch?’ Travis Hawk had a satisfying answer to my outcry. Turns out there is a very strong fan base for MOBA games among the Aeria Games staff. As such, when they got their hands on the heroes they soon realized that there were some heroes seriously lacking in usefulness and some that were intensely overpowering. Thanks to Aeria’s close relationship with the developers, they are able to delay the release of these champions and address directly what needs to be done to prepare and balance the champions before going live on their servers. Maybe it’s the cynicism I’ve developed towards MMO games over my lifetime, but I find it easier to sleep at night knowing that the publishing company of a game is acting as a firewall between me and the developers so that only tested and approved content makes it live on the game servers.。

 。

 。

 。

 。

Titan’s Eye breaks the norm by introducing a mission aside from the main quest to destroy the enemy’s base. A total kill count goal is set at the beginning of the game based on how many players are present within the game, with the maximum being 66 for 5v5 and 15 for 1v1 matches. If your team reaches this quota before destroying the enemy base, you win! Of course it is encouraged that players win by this kill based quota, and so respawn times following death are reduced by roughly 90% to keep the action constantly flowing.。

Besides polish and looks, Realm of the Titans is using its Chinese release to one up the competition in the realm of content. Although their homepage only shows 13 Heroes on display, this is pure trolling. At the press event there were closer to 20 Heroes available for use, with a grand total of 59 Heroes existing to be released. As Associate Producer Travis Hawk assured me, Realm of the Titans is looking to follow a 2 week continuous content release starting from launch. That means new champions, new skins, and constant feedback, tweaking, balance, and bug patching to keep the game feeling fresh and dynamic.。

Hey OnRPG viewers! My apologies for the lack of updates over the weekend. I have once again gone to Santa Clara to meet with Aeria Games for an early press preview of their upcoming MOBA, Realm of the Titans.。

 。

In part 2 of this column I will be stepping away from the overarching concepts of the game to give you the juicy details of the Heroes, Titan Skills, Titan Skill Amping, and map layouts. Expect to see it before the end of the week! Until then, Dizzy’s Early Access is signing out.。

Edit: Be sure to check out Aeria's new Realm of the Titans Titan's Eye Preview Video!。

 。

 。

 。

As for the viewers that are already in the know, I’m sure by now you are getting tired of my rambling and just want me to answer the question, “Does Realm of the Titans stand on par with League of Legends?” My answer is yes.。

But why stop there? Realm of the Titans is dedicated to make itself as Esport friendly as possible. They are implementing a 1 or 2 man ‘Referee System’ in which neutral parties can place themselves on the map in observer mode but view the battle live. This is an ideal system for youtube enthusiasts and live streams of tournaments alike!。

 。

 。

Realm of the Titans, much like Aeria’s previous release Eden Eternal, is heading towards launch with a powerful weapon at its disposal. It has already been launched in China and has gained a lot of tweaking, balancing, and bug fixes prior to seeing the light of day in America. In fact I found no bugs or glitches in my entire afternoon playing the game. The game is also highly polished graphically, bringing in beautiful maps, well defined unique looking characters, and clear cut skill animations that never leave you puzzled over what happened in an intense team fight. The special effects in this game are dazzling from moment to moment, but the ultimate skills left me in shock and awe.。

 。

 。

 。

 。

If you’re interested in a more active feature, you’ll be happy to know that bot games exist in Realm of the Titans to help players hone their skills. But these aren’t your grandma’s wimpy autofeed bots you have gotten so used to from other MOBA games. Set the bots difficulty to hard and you will find yourself fighting for survival as the bots acquire experience gain bonuses and use them to pounce and punish any player caught out of position.。

 。

 。

 。

 。

Realm of the Titans really has the full features at the ready to make this game an ideal candidate for Esports. Wish you could catch a glimpse of the pros in action while having your morning cereal? Realm of the Titans has a fully functional and detailed observer mode that will be ready at launch! This mode allows you to sit in on a game with a 5 minute delay to avoid cheating. While sitting in, you can observe both teams or set fog of war up to keep things mysterious. You can view personal stats of each hero, the overall gold acquired by each team, the skill and item progression of each hero, and even the current cool down timers limiting that hero’s skill use!。

The same is true for of the items on display on the website. Though they show quite a large variety of items on the homepage, it’s not an accurate depiction of the sheer variety of items and builds you can create on a game to game basis. The items also feature diverse build paths that result in a variety of end game items featuring powerful active abilities that also freeze, cc, and other side effects. Oh having 8 item slots to work with doesn’t hurt customization either!

Diablo 3 requires constant internet conne

Blizzard has revealed that the long-awaited Diablo 3 will require players to be constantly connected to the internet, even after an initial authentication process has been completed. According to Blizzard's executive vice president of game design Rob Pardo, this requirement is due to the implementation of numerous new Battle.net and Auction House features. Those features include the following:A persistent friends list.Cross-game chat via the RealID system.Persistent characters that are stored server-side (no more having to play online once every 90 days, nor item duplication cheats).Persistent party system.Player-versus-player and public game matchmaking.Dynamic drop-in/out for co-opLarger item stash that gets shared among all of your characters (at the moment, up to 10)The auction house (allows players to sell loot for real money)The Achievement system and detailed stat-tracking, both of which feed into the final point:The Banner system, a visual way to display your skills that take into account earned achievements, the number of PVP victories etc. Banners can be clicked to teleport to other players.Blizzard's confirmed that Diablo 3 will be playable at GamesCom in Cologne, which takes place mid-August.

Vita price not a reaction to Nintendo 3DS

Sony's $249 (€249) price tag for PlayStation Vita was not a reaction to the affordable pricetag Nintendo slapped on its 3DS handheld, according to Sony. 3DS was originally launched at the same price in the US in March - until Nintendo chopped a third off the device's RRP in July.Despite having a greatly superior feature set, Vita will launch at approximately the same RRP as its predecessor, Sony's PSP."$250 or €250 has always been our target price to hit for PS Vita, since the beginning of the development of the platform in 2008," Sony's global studios boss Shuhei Yoshida told the latest issue of Edge."We did not price PS Vita to match 3DS. Consumers have to see the value to shell out their hard-earned money, so each product must have the right price to meet the consumers' perception of the value proposition of each product. We believe €250 - €300 for the 3G/WiFit model - is the right price for PS Vita."Vita, which has been dubbed the "easiest PlayStation platform to develop for" won't be hitting Europe and the US until next year - but is set for release in Japan before the end of 2011.
