Hillary Clinton says US, China discuss events in Middle East

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Tuesday that she and Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo had "a lot of exchange of ideas" on the events occurring in the Middle East and North Africa.

"We exchanged impressions and views about how individual nations, as well as the region, is moving in the pressures for transition, for changes, for political and economic reform," Clinton told reporters at a press conference held right after the conclusion of the third-round of US-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED) in Washington.

Clinton, who co-chaired the strategic part of the two-day dialogue with Dai, said that in their discussions, she pointed out that, starting in 2002, there were a series of reports done by Arab experts about the development of that region and how it had not kept up with the rest of the world, particularly Asia.

She said that she and Dai had "a lot of exchange of ideas" but it was very difficult to draw "any overall conclusions" as every nation and every region is different.

She expressed continued US support for the people of the region, saying they are trying to realize their aspirations during the transition period.

Warriors' Stephen Curry has surgery on ankle

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry had surgery on his right ankle but is expected rift goldto be ready by training camp in the fall.

The Warriors said Wednesday the surgery was performed by Dr. Bob Anderson in Charlotte, N.C. Curry missed eight games last season because of multiple sprains on his right ankle.

He still averaged 18.6 points, 5.8 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game. Alongside backcourt teammate Monta Ellis, Curry helped the Warriors to a 36-46 record. That was a 10-game improvement from the prift platinumrevious season.

About the cold current

During the major cold period, the weather is very cold, and the cold current begins move southward. Strong winds and lower temperatures during the winter are brought by the cold current and strong cold air, which can threaten coastal areas. For example, the cold current from April rift gold21 to April 25 in 1969 brought strong winds to the Bohai Sea, Yellow Sea, Hebei province, Shandong province and Henan province. The wind power of the earth can reach seven to eight degrees, and the wind power on the sea can reach eight to ten degrees. Because it was the astronomical tide, the outbreak of the cold current caused an unusual storm tide off the Bohai Gulf and Laizhou Bay. At the north shore of Shandong province, seawater rose more than three meters, which destroyed more than 50 kilometers of seawall.

Snow and freezing weather brought by the cold current can also cause great hazards for traffic and transportation. For example, a current at the latter part of November in 1987 made many stations and crossings at Harbin, Shenyang, Beijing and Urumchi freeze. The railroads were covered with snow, thrift platinum
e signal of communications was out of order and the run of the train was obstructed. The roads iced up, causing an increase in traffic accidents.

Butterfly in love with Flower

With the advent of spring, I’m in the mood for poem writing. I read and appreciated a poem called “Butterfly in love with Flower (Go Out in Spring)”. It happened to be the Awakening of Insects, and I wanted to write a lyrical poem to express my feelings. By Spring Water

Butterfly in Love with Flower

During the Awakening of Insects in March, farmers begin to cultivate their land. Baby swallows fly side by side, disporting themselves happily in the sky The borders of the green grass stretch out far beyond my line of sight Different kinds of flowers in the valley are blooming in majestic splendor, giving off a delicate fragrance Thatched cottages hide in the depths of the forest; smoke is spiraling up from the kitchen chimney. The welcoming pine waves in the wind, greeting the blue birds flying back. The east winds clean up the gravel path. It has been a long time since I came home; I miss my hometown very much

China: Military buildup 'transparent'

China insisted Thursday it hasn't concealed details of its defense strategy, after U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice urged greater openness from Beijing on its military buildup.

Rice, who was in Australia ahead of three-way talks over the weekend that include Japan, said China should "undertake to be transparent" about the 14.7 percent increase in its military budget for therift gold year.

But Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said Beijing has adopted "appropriate and visible military transparency measures." He said China regularly publishes papers on its national defense and is open about its military expenses, while Chinese troops have increased exchanges with other countries.

"These have been in compliance with our development strategy and security commitment," Qin said at a regular news briefing. "What is more important is that our national defense strategy is totally transparent."

This year's defense spending accounts for about 7.4 percent of China's total budget, which the government says is about the same proportion as in recent years.

The spending boost brings expenditure up to 283.8 billion yuan (US$35.3 billion; euro28.6 billion), but arift platinumnalysts believe the true spending figure is several times higher if weapons purchases and other key items are included.

Recent purchases include submarines, jet fighters and other high-tech weapons.

Premier Wen Jiabao said this week that the Chinese military would never pose a threat to another country.

Industrial Revolution in America

The “industrial revolution” is a term coined in the nineteenth century to describe the rapid rise of the modern factory system and the related economic, social, and cultural effects. It is a phrase that to some extent began to fall out of favor in the latter part of the twentieth century as the factory no longer seemed quite so central to western society and as historical research began to question whether the rise of the factory system was quite as revolutionary and rapid as it once seemed. Nevertheless, it remains a useful concept for understanding the great changes of the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

The concept is probably most applicable to lateeighteenth-century England, where the rapidity of the onset of industrialization, particularly in the textile and metal industries, was very much remarked upon by contemporaries. The crux of this revolution was in the transformation from handicraft work performed at home or in an artisan’s shop to factory work, performed by wage laborers and characterized by a highly developed division of labor and reliance upon automated machinery, such as the spinning jenny of James Hargreaves (d. 1778), the water frame (an automated spinning machine) of Richard Arkwright (1732–1792), and the power loom of Edmund Cartwright (1743–1823). Initially, this machinery was most frequently powered by hand or water, but as the century progressed, the steam engine of James Watt (1736–1819) became increasingly important. While undoubtedly innovative, these developments built upon a long history of textile manufacture in England reaching back at least to the Norman Conquest of the eleventh century.

Anti-Retroviral Therapy Protects Against HIV Transmission

While there was other information indicating that this was possible or even likely, this is the first trtera goldial to prove it. “It’s a resounding result,” she said, “with a 96 percent reduction in transmission if one’s on antiretroviral treatment.”

Eleven different drugs were used in trials taking place in Africa, North America, Asia and Latin America.

It’s very good news

Hankins said for families and loved ones, “it means that they now have an additional choice to make. They already have available to them male and female condoms, avoiding penetrative sex, waiting to start sex, male circumcision…but they now have this addition, which is getting on treatment frift platinumor the person who is HIV positive.”

She added it means couples can have a greater chance of safely starting a family and “it may make for a better quality of life for the person who’s living with HIV, who doesn’t have to be afraid that every single sexual act may cause transmission.”

She cautioned that although the treatment is 96 percent effective, it’s still not foolproof. But combining it with other prevention methods, she said, would provide greater peace of mind.

Danish Scientists Say Abortion Does Not Increase Risk of Mental Illness

Having an abortion does not increase the risk of mental health problems, but having a baby does, one of the largest studies to compare the aftermath of both decisions suggests.

The research by Danish scientists further debunks the notion that terminating a pregnancy can trigger mental illness and shows postpartum depression to be much more of a factor.

Abortion in Denmark has been legal since 1973 -- the same year the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on Roe v. Wade,Rift Gold which established a right to abortion.

The Danish study included 365,550 teenagers and women who had an abortion or first-time delivery between 1995 and 2007. None had a history of psychiatric problems that required hospitalization. Through various national registries, researchers were able to track mental health counseling at a hospital or outpatient facility before and after an abortion or delivery.

During the study period, 84,620 had an abortion while 280,930 gave birth.

Researchers compared the rate of mental health treatment among women before and after a first abortion.RIFT Platinum Within the first year after an abortion, 15 per 1,000 women needed psychiatric counseling -- similar to the rate seeking help nine months before an abortion.

Researchers say women who seek abortions come from a demographic group more likely to have emotional problems to begin with. Statistics show that a large percentage struggle economically and they have above-average rates of unintended pregnancies.

While first-time mothers had a lower rate of mental problems overall, rift gold the proportion of those seeking help after giving birth was dramatically higher. About 7 per 1,000 women got mental health help within a year of giving birth compared with 4 per 1,000 women pre-delivery.

The most common problems among women in both the abortion and the delivery groups were debilitating anxiety, severe stress and depression.

"A woman should know that her risk of having a psychiatric episode is not increased" after an abortion, said Trine Munk-Olsen of Aarhus University, who led the study.

Results were published in Thursday's New England Journal of Medicine. The study was funded by grants from the Danish Medical Research Council and the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation,RIFT Platinum which supports abortion rights organizations and projects.

The study did not examine why a pregnancy was terminated. Researchers also only studied mental problems serious enough to warrant admission to a hospital or outpatient clinic and did not look into the role of mild depression and other lesser symptoms.

In a previous study, published in 2006, Munk-Olsen found new mothers faced increased risks for a host of mental problems, TERA Goldnot just postpartum depression.

Changes in hormone levels, sleep deprivation and other demands associated with having a baby could trigger mental problems, experts say. By contrast, women who have an abortion don't experience similar changes.

"Anyone who's ever had a baby knows it's stressful. That stress doesn't go away in a week or two" after delivery, said Dr. Robert Blum, who heads the department of population, family and reproductive health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

The latest findings echo an extensive review by the American Psychological Association in 2008 that found no evidence that ending an unwanted pregnancy threatens women's mental health.

A separate review by Blum and his colleagues found that the most rigorous research on the topic did not find a relationship between abortion and long-term mental health problems. Previous studies that suggested such a connection were often poorly designed, had dropout rates or did not control for factors that could affect the conclusion.

Though the latest study was done in Denmark, Blum said it's comparable to the U.S. Access to abortion is similar in both countries though Denmark tends to be more conservative.

Abortion rates are lower in Denmark -- about 13 abortions per 1,000 women in 2008, compared to almost 20 per 1,000 U.S. women that same year, according to the Guttmacher Institute, which studies reproductive-rights issues.

Researchers Call Non-Alcoholic Energy Drinks Public Health Threat

Energy drinks packed with caffeine and popular among teens and college students could be a public health hazard, according to an advisory put out by the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Even energy drinks containing no alcohol,Rift Gold like Red Bull and others, might pose a significant threat to the people who use them, according to researchers at the University of Maryland School of Public Health and Wake Forest University School of Medicine.

Of particular concern are the beverages' effects on the heart and their link to excessive drinking and drug use.

"If children aren't used to having caffeine,RIFT Platinum that can start to affect their heart rate," nutritionist and registered dietician Megan Fendt of Beth Israel Medical Center in New York told AOL Health. "It's usually a short-term effect of either a heart palpitation or an abnormal heart rate."

The JAMA report recommends an immediate crackdown involving consumers, health-care providers, the Food and Drug Administration and drink manufacturers.

"Recent action to make pre-mixed alcoholic energy drinks unavailable was an important first step, but more continued action is needed," paper co-author Aelia Arria, a researcher at the Maryland School of Public Health, said in a statement. rift gold"No regulation exists with regard to the level of caffeine that can be in an energy drink."

She also pointed out that consumers of the energy drinks can mix their own alcohol in, packing even more of a risky punch.

She and co-author Mary Claire O'Brien, an associate professor of emergency medicine at Wake Forest, began notifying state attorneys general about the hazards of alcoholic energy drinks in 2009. Ultimately, the initiative led the FDA and Federal Trade Commission to take action against Four Loko and similar beverage companies.

The JAMA report says there are three public health problems with any of the heavily caffeinated energy drinks,RIFT Platinum which contain between 70 and 80 milligrams of caffeine -- about double the amount that's in soda. Those risks include their association with the "party culture" and the consequences (i.e. driving under the influence); caffeine's health hazards in people sensitive to it; and the drinks' link to alcohol and drug use, abuse and addiction.

The paper calls on doctors to warn patients about the risks, consumers to be aware of the potential health hazards, and manufacturers and government agencies to disclose caffeine content and other ingredients on the label.

"Nobody should be having that much caffeine in one bottle of anything, but especially not children," Fendt told AOL Health.TERA Gold "Because they're marketed as these sugary, sweet drinks in a can, children are more likely to just grab them and not think about it."

Soaring Food Costs Pushing Millions Into Poverty

Soaring food and energy prices, still-fragile financial systems and continued tensions between the United States and China over trade and currency issues will all be on the agenda at meetings over the next three days of global finance officials.

World Bank President Robert Zoellick said Thursday that food prices are 36 percent higher than they were a year ago and already have pushed 44 million people into poverty. He called on major countries to do more to help poor countries meet the challenge of feeding their populations at a time of surging prices.

Finance ministers and central bank presidents of the Group of 20 major industrial countries were involved in talks that began Thursday on ways to address the food crisis and to better coordinate their economic policies.

Zoellick cited a new World Bank study that showed that another 10 percent increase in global food prices could drive an additional 10 million people into extreme poverty.

That would be in addition to the 44 million people who have been driven into poverty since June because of soaring food prices. The World Bank estimates there are about 1.2 billion people living below the poverty line of $1.25 per day.

"We have to put food first and protect the poor and vulnerable, who spend most of their money on food," Zoellick said at a briefing to preview the upcoming finance meetings.

Those discussions began Thursday with talks first among finance officials of the world's seven wealthiest countries - the United States, Japan, Germany, France, Britain, Canada and Italy. Rift Gold Those countries were joined later by finance officials from the Group of 20 nations, which include not only the traditional economic powers but fast-growing emerging economies, including China, India and Brazil. French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde and U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner also led a discussion on how the major economies could provide support in the Middle East and North Africa following a change of governments in Tunisia and Egypt. In a joint statement issued after those talks, Geithner and Lagarde said the goal of the major economies would be to work with major financial institutions such as the International Monetary Fund and World Bank to support economic growth that would benefit a broader group of people in Egypt and Tunisia.

"We recognize that these transitions are about expanding the freedoms and opportunities of people," Geithner and Lagarde said. They said a joint action plan would be developed with early recommendations coming in May to support "inclusive and sustained growth, transparency and improved governance

After a dinner Thursday night, the G-20 discussions were to continue Friday, led by Lagarde. RIFT Platinum France is head of the G-20 this year. The group is expected to issue a joint statement of goals at the end of Friday's discussions.

The G-20 talks will be focused on making more progress on a set of economic indicators that the group can use to gauge whether countries are pursuing the correct policies to prevent the growth of dangerous imbalances in trade and government debt which contributed to the last financial crisis.

The United States is pushing for the indicators to be set up, hoping they can be used to bring more pressure on China to allow its currency to rise in value against the dollar as a way to narrow the huge trade gap that exists between China and the U.S.

However, Chinese officials do not want the rebalancing process to be used as a way to attack China's currency policies, and it was unclear whether any progress will be made during the Washington talks.

But the United States hoped to gain support from other G-20 nations, rift gold especially given the group's pledge to put in place policies to guard against a repeat of the past economic crisis at a time when the global economy remains fragile.

"There are lots of things to worry about and we want to make sure we don't fall back into another crisis as we did not that long ago," RIFT Platinum Canadian Finance Minister James Flaherty told reporters.

The finance meetings will wrap up on Saturday with meetings of the policy-setting committees of the 187-nation International Monetary Fund and the World Bank that will discuss issues involving their institutions.

IMF Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn said that while the global economy began growing again last year after the most severe downturn since World War II,
Rift Gold there still were multiple risks to the recovery from rising energy costs to continuing debt problems in Europe and new inflation dangers coming from China and other fast-growing emerging economies.

"The recovery is getting stronger but ... it is not the recovery we want because it is still imbalanced," Strauss-Kahn told reporters. "We must be aware of complacency, and we need urgent action."

Say It Isn't So! Kate Middleton Considering Non-White Wedding Dress?

With the wedding of the century now just a few months away, everyone is buzzing about what exactly Kate Middelton will be wearing when she unites with Prince William and becomes a real-life princess. Since details about the dress have been a well-guarded secret, the biggest question in Britain is ... what color will it be?

"Even the dress makers didn't know what color Di's dress would be as the fabric was ordered in white and cream," a Royal insider tells me about Princess Diana's wedding in 1981.
Rift Gold "I expect the same is happening right now with Kate's dress. White is a very tough color to pull off, so I'm sure both bride and designer are talking about cream and ivory as well."

No matter which color Kate eventually goes with, the fashion community considers rift gold this dress to be one of the most important of all time.

Her choice could set trends for style and color of wedding gowns for years to come, RIFT Platinum just like her soon-to-be late mother-in-law did back in 1981 with her meringue dress.

"Kate certainly takes fashion risks," one insider tells me. "When she attended a friend's wedding a few weeks ago she wore black and no bra. TERA Gold Anyone that is expecting a boring dress for her big day or boring white should think again."

Oh boy, will Kate follow in Valerie Bertinelli's footsteps and wear blue?

Dead Reckoning

Dead reckoning is dependant on being able to make continuous measurements of course and distance traveled. A navigator starts at a known point, perhaps a port, rift gold and then measures his course and distance from that point on a chart. Course is measured by magnetic compass and distance is determined by the speed of the vessel multiplied by the time traveled.

Navigators, like Christopher Columbus, made these measurements and noted them in the ship’s log (the journal of the journey). Dead reckoning does not rely on celestial navigation—you don’t have to know your stars to measure distance and time. Dead reckoning was rift gold originally written in logs as “ded. Reckoning” so some think this was an abbreviation for “deduced reckoning.” However, the Oxford English Dictionary thinks the word is “dead” as in “completely” or “absolutely.” A dead reckoning position is one based completely on reckoning—or calculation.

Hackers Target Pakistani Man's Website After bin Laden Raid Tweets

Unknown online hackers have compromised the website of a man in Pakistan who has become an Internet sensation after unknowingly live-blogging the U.S. operation that killed Osama bin Laden.

The online security lab Websense said Tuesday that someone had installed a code on Sohaib Athar's blog that attempts to install malware on a visitor's computer. On May 1, Athar acknowledged that his blog server was infected.

In the past two days, rift gold Athar has drawn tens of thousands of new followers to his Twitter account, which has a link to his blog.

The Pakistani computer programmer, who describes himself as "the guy who unknowingly liveblogged the Osama raid," first posted early Monday a message saying there was a helicopter hovering over the town of Abbottabad, and tweeted for it to "go away." He then posted a tweet about a window-shaking bang and relayed some reports of possible explanations for the situation.

It was later revealed that a helicopter involved with the U.S. operation had crashed.

One of Athar's twitter followers connected Athar's posts to the speech given by U.S. President Barack Obama saying American special forces had killed bin Laden.

After news of his story spread, rift gold Athar's posts have included mentions of his interviews with various media outlets and apologies for not being able to respond to every journalist's request.

Exploration and Settlement of the Americas

When Christopher Columbus crossed the Atlantic Ocean in 1492, he thought he had reached eastern Asia. In fact he had opened up to Europeans a new world with two continents—North America and South America—and many islands. Many more Europeans followed Columbus to the Americas. Most were from Spain, Portugal, France, and England.

The Americas were rift gold named not for Columbus but for Amerigo Vespucci. He was an Italian merchant and Explorer who took part in at least two voyages to the Americas in the late 1400s and early 1500s. Vespucci was one of the first people to realize that the land Columbus found was not a part of Asia.

Exploring by Ship Vikings
Columbus was probably not the first European to reach America. Vikings from northern Europe traveled to the coast of what is now Canada in about AD 1000. The Vikings did not stay long, however.

Columbus
By the time of Columbus, Europeans had traveled to the East and explored many parts of Asia. Many other Europeans admired the cloths, spices, and medicines that the explorers brought back with them. They wanted more of these goods. But the voyage to Asia was long and expensive. Educated Europeans knew that the world was round. They thought rift gold that by sailing west, they could find a shorter route to Asia. Between 1492 and 1504, Christopher Columbus made four voyages across the Atlantic Ocean. Columbus reached Central and South America as well as the islands that are now called the West Indies. He never reached Asia, but his trips inspired many others to follow.

Honoring Cool Aunts And Other 'Other-Mothers' This Mother's Day

Not too long ago, Mom was the norm. She played the role so elegantly, first in pearls opening the door to greet the Beav, then with a shag do, blissfully managing her combined family, three from his, three from hers. Soon, she was newly single, managing life "One Day at a Time."Rift Gold By the 90s, she was berated by the vice president for giving birth out of wedlock, and then by the new millennium, Rachel and Miranda seemed the norm. Now NBC's "Parenthood," a show about parenthood, stars four women who are not mothers in real life -- another true reflection of the American landscape.

Motherhood in America has changed. In fact, nearly 50 percent of American women are not moms, up from 35 percent in 1976. Forty-six percent of women ages 25 to 29 don't have children, a steep rise from 31 percent in the mid 70s. And nearly one-fifth of women ages 40 to 44 have not given birth, nearly double the rate of 10 percent that we saw 35 years ago.

While the hard Census data does not qualify this radical change in the adult female landscape,RIFT Platinum we do know that it's not an assault on so-called family values. Modern women don't have children, or have them later in life, for a variety of valid reasons, most of which have to do with choice. Some are waiting for love. Some are not in love with men. Some believe motherhood is not for them. Some are on the fence. And others are just not there yet. Of course, for some, fertility is not a choice within their control. But rarely are women not mothers because they don't believe in family.

It's time for a remix. If we look with a modern eye at family the way it was just a few centuries ago, when grandmothers, aunts, cousins and other villagers helped raise the village's children, we'd see clearly that while half of America's women have not begun immediate families of their own, they are contributing invaluably to families around them.

Ironically, it's TV-star moms who are beginning to see what really shapes the family landscape in America. Tori Spelling, mother, actress ,rift gold bestselling author and star of a series about family on the Oxygen Network, was literally brought to tears when I asked her last year about how important the aunts and "Guncles" are to her family. She doesn't know what she would do without the adoring grown-ups in her children's lives, she told me.

And just recently, Amy Poehler, working mom and star of NBC's "Community," got uncharacteristically serious for a moment at the end of her Time 100 acceptance speech at the Gala on April 26. She took time to recognize the women in her life, her village:

And for you working women ... who get to do what you get to do because there are wonderful people who help you ... Those are people who love your children as much as you do,RIFT Platinum and who inspire them and influence them, and on behalf of every sister ... and person who stands in your kitchen and helps you love your child, I say 'thank you,' and I celebrate you tonight.
Half of American women were celebrated that night, thanks to Amy.

Just about every woman has a child in her life, by relation or by choice, whom she loves and adores. Every boo-boo she kisses, every little hand she holds, every hug she gives is a gift to that family. And every time a PANK® (Professional Aunt No Kids) stays late so a mom can leave early to attend to a sick child, or takes on double the work when a new mom is on maternity leave, she's contributing to the national American Family Village.

These Savvy Aunties are not childless.TERA Gold They are childfull; they choose to love the children they know and give to children around the nation -- and around the world.

It's time to embrace all the maternal women in a child's life this Mother's Day. It's time to open the door and welcome Auntie in.

How the Gift of Gab Saved the Human Race

It's funny to learn that ethics would never have evolved without gossip. In the beginning, anthropologists tell us, "Language evolved as a replacement for physical grooming."1 Our human shift from picking each other's lice to minding each other's business appears to have been a natural progression for our nosy species.

Gossip has been an indispensable method for policing one another ever since, helping us to monitor good and evil as well as prevent physical conflict. In fact, Rift Goldgossip is our first line of defense before violence in the exertion of social control, says psychologist Jonathan Haidt. Before we punch someone in the face, or torch his house, we can always ruin his reputation.

A good reputation is social collateral, and gossip is key to how we protect it. As a moral controlling device, it allows us to save face and cast aspersions on others. We are not autonomously moral beings, after all. The more closely people live together, the more they care; the more they care, the more they gossip; and the more they gossip,RIFT Platinum the more language can serve its ethical function. "Gossip paired with reciprocity allows karma to work here on earth, not in the next life," Haidt likes to joke.2

People in all societies gossip, and the first rule of life in a dense web of gossip is: Be careful about what you do. Humans use language primarily to talk about other people, to find out who's doing what, who's sleeping with so-and-so's husband, who cheated whom, who behaved heroically or who caved in. Indeed, gossip tends to be overwhelmingly critical, rift gold concerned primarily with moral and social violations.

This is because individuals who were able to share information had an advantage in human evolution. Our ancestors surmised that, in a gossipy world, what we do matters less than what people think we do, so we'd better be able to frame our actions in a positive light. As ultra-social creatures, we're also ultra-manipulators, fabricators, and competitors for the driver's seat; gossip created "a runaway competition in who could be master of the art of social manipulation, relationship aggression and reputation management" in human society, as E.O. Wilson tells us.3 We also learned to prepare ourselves for other people's attempts to deceive,RIFT Platinum compete against and manipulate us.

As a species, we love to gab. From metropolitan centers to the primitive ends of the earth, we are language-drunk, addicted to stories. Gossip and storytelling allow us to pool the wisdom of communal emotion. Our chatter eventually amalgamates into systems of ethical conduct. Moral emotions like gratitude, contempt, and anger can be verbalized to create the shared sense of right and wrong that allows us to live together.

Reciprocity is central to how gossip works. Have you ever noticed how hard it is not to share dishy information? (A friend of mine calls this "emptying the ashtrays," after the irresistible note sharing between friends following a party.) That's because our brains are wired to pay stories forward. Once you've unburdened yourself ("I just can't hold this in!"), it's likely that others will reciprocate in kind, divulging some tidbit of their own.

We may judge indiscretions as a moral liability ("loose lips sink ships"), but indiscreet sharing is also a form of social insurance, as well as a source of intimacy. Being a memoir writer, I've often been surprised by this: I've received hundreds of intimate letters from readers who felt compelled to divulge (sometimes shockingly,TERA Gold once criminally) personal things to me simply because I'd been honest with them in a book. These letters ranged from poignant to obscene, but the content isn't the point. It's the automaticity of the gossip reflex that matters, and the reason for this is central to the cost-benefit side of morality. Communication is a non-zero-sum game where both players stand to win. It costs us nothing to share information and both parties are likely to come out ahead.

We're able to sharpen our ethical nails on gossip and scandal, and to feel contempt, a central moral emotion, as well as superiority, while being asked for nothing in return. Character assassination can also be morally damaging to the gossiper and turn all of us into hypocrites, of course. "In our condemnation of others' hypocrisy we only compound our own," Haidt warns. Hypocrisy is a tribute vice pays to virtue, after all.

So the question isn't whether or not to gossip, but how to gossip well. It's not so evil, after all. It helped to save us from ourselves.

What Vegetables Contain Fructose?

Overview
Fructose is a type of sugar called a monosaccharide, which is predominantly found in fruits. When fructose is bound to glucose, it forms sucrose, a disaccharide often referred to as table sugar. Foods that taste sweet can have a combination of different proportions of fructose, glucose and sucrose.
Rift Gold The highest sources of fructose are found in dates, raisins, figs, prunes, grapes, pears, cherries, apples and foods sweetened with high-fructose corn syrup. Vegetables are not a large source of fructose, but some of them can provide significant amounts of fructose to your diet if consumed regularly and in large quantities.

Sweet Cucumber Pickles
A half cup of sweet cucumber pickles provides 16.9 g of total carbohydrates, of which 7.1 g is fructose and 0.8 g is dietary fiber. However, most of this fructose comes from the addition of sweetener to the pickles because cucumber is not that high in fructose. A whole raw cucumber contains 10.9 g of carbohydrates, of which 2.6 g is fructose.

Tomato
Tomato-based products can contribute a significant amount of fructose to your diet if you consume them on a regular basis. For example, an 8 oz. RIFT Platinum serving of tomato juice contains 10 g of carbohydrates, of which 4.5 g is fructose. Of the 7 g of total carbohydrates found in 1 cup of ripe tomatoes, 2.5 g is fructose. A cup of canned tomato sauce contains 13.2 g of carbs, of which 4.1 g is fructose.

Sweet Onion
A sweet onion contains 25 g of total carbs, of which 6.7 g is fructose. However, if you use only a few slices, or if the sweet onion is used for a recipe that yields many servings, your fructose consumption is not likely to be impacted significantly. rift gold As for regular raw onions, they provide less fructose, with approximately 2.1 g of fructose per cup.

Red Bell Pepper
A cup of sweet red bell pepper provides 9 g of carbohydrates, of which 3.4 g is fructose. However, unless you make a red bell pepper soup, you are not likely to eat a whole cup of red bell pepper at once.RIFT Platinum Having a few slices of red bell pepper for your snack or adding red bell pepper to a stew or stir-fry will probably not increase your fructose intake significantly.

Summer Squash
Zucchini is one of the most consumed summer squash varieties, and a large one provides 10.1 g of carbs and 4.5 g of fructose. TERA Gold Because most people would not consume a whole large zucchini at once, the amount of fructose obtained from summer squash probably doesn't constitute a large source of fructose in your diet.

Fish Oil Helps Prevent Weight- and Muscle-Loss in Cancer Patients

Weight loss and loss of muscle mass are common problems in cancer patients, especially patients going through chemotherapy, which can cause nausea and appetite loss.

But a new study, published in Cancer -- the journal of the American Cancer Society, Rift Goldfinds that fish oil supplements may stop the loss of muscle and weight in cancer patients.

"Fish oil may prevent loss of weight and muscle by interfering with some of the pathways that are altered in advanced cancer," said Dr. Vera Mazurak, of the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada, in a statement. "This holds great promise because currently there is no effective treatment for cancer-related malnutrition."

The finding is important because chemotherapy can cause cancer patients to become malnourished,RIFT Platinum leading to fatigue, a decreased quality of life, an inability to receive necessary treatments and shorter survival, the authors said.

Before starting the study, researchers suspected that supplementing cancer patients' diets with fish oil, which contains omega-3 fatty acids such as eicosapentaenoic acid, might help them maintain or gain muscle.

To test the theory, the research team compared the effects of fish oil-supplemented diets with the standard diets used in newly diagnosed lung cancer patients.

Sixteen patients took fish oil containing 2.2 grams of eicosapentaenoic acid daily, and 24 patients did not.

The study ran for about 10 weeks while the patients completed their chemotherapy treatments.rift gold Muscle and fat were periodically measured using computed tomography images. Blood was collected and weight was recorded at the start of the study and throughout chemotherapy.

Patients who did not take fish oil lost an average of 5 pounds, but the patients receiving fish oil maintained their weight.

Also, 69 percent of patients in the fish oil group gained or maintained muscle mass, while only 29 percent of patients in the standard group maintained muscle mass. Overall, patients who did not take the fish oil supplement lost about 2.2 pounds of muscle.

Mazurak said fish oil is safe and non-toxic,RIFT Platinum and that subsequent studies may find that it also helps maintain muscle mass in patients suffering from other types of cancer, as well as in the elderly.

Lona Sandon, a registered dietitian and assistant professor of clinical nutrition at the University of Texas Southwestern Dallas, told HealthDay the findings looked "promising."

"Malnutrition is a big concern with cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiation," she said. "Because first of all they do have wasting from the cancer itself, which is very metabolically active and eats up your energy stores. And then with chemotherapy,TERA Gold there is some inflammation that's detrimental to the heart and muscle, as it can cause muscle breakdown. And preservation of lean muscle tissue, we know, leads to better outcomes.

"Similar studies have looked at omega-3 and muscle preservation and have also suggested that fish oil can act to prevent inflammation caused by both disease and hardcore medications, like chemotherapy agents," Sandon added.

Is Alzheimer's Inherited From Mom

A new study seems to add to mounting evidence that Alzheimer's disease may be inherited from your mother if one of your parents has the disease.

But a well-known Alzheimer's specialist says the findings are flawed, Rift Goldand there is no solid proof showing that type of dementia has a maternal genetic link -- or any genetic link at all.

Researchers at the University of Kansas School of Medicine looked at 53 people ages 60 and older without dementia for a period of two years. Eleven of them said their mothers had Alzheimer's, 10 reported a father with the memory-loss illness and 32 said they had no family history of the condition.

Throughout the course of the study, RIFT Platinumpublished in the March 1 issue of Neurology, all participants underwent cognitive testing and brain scans.

By the end of the two-year period, the authors said, those whose mothers had Alzheimer's showed twice as much shrinkage of gray matter in their brains -- which is a symptom of the disease -- as those with a father who had Alzheimer's and those with no family history.

Furthermore, subjects whose mother had Alzheimer's had roughly one-and-a-half times more shrinkage of the entire brain than those whose fathers had the disease.

"Using 3-D mapping methods, rift gold we were able to look at the different regions of the brain affected in people with maternal or paternal ties to Alzheimer's disease," study author Robyn Honea said in a statement. "In people with a maternal family history of the disease, we found differences in the break-down processes in specific areas of the brain that are also affected by Alzheimer's disease, leading to shrinkage."

But Peter Davies, the director of the Litwin-Zucker Center for Research in Alzheimer's Disease,RIFT Platinum said the study is misleading because there are more women in the population than men.

"Observationally, that just isn't true in general," he told AOL Health of the theory that the illness is passed down from the mother's side. "There's a number bias here because there are more women with Alzheimer's than men -- but only because women live longer than men. That puts more women into the age of risk for Alzheimer's."

He said all the research on the matter, which dates back about 20 years, has failed to account for that simple fact.

"If you start to look at whether your mother or your father has Alzheimer's disease, it's more likely to be your mother," he told AOL Health. "But you need to correct for the fact that there are more women than men."TERA Gold Most studies that have done that have failed to prove a maternal genetic tie to the illness, he said.

Honea said her findings are in line with other previous research suggesting that Alzheimer's may be inherited by immediate family members.

"It is estimated that people who have first-degree relatives with Alzheimer's disease are four to 10 times more likely to develop the disease themselves compared to people with no family history," said Honea. "Understanding how the disease may be inherited could lead to better prevention and treatment strategies."

But Davies said there's no hard proof that the disease is genetic at all, and criticized the latest findings for relying on too small a pool of participants, as he says past research on the subject has.

"Alzheimer's is not, most of the time, inherited," he said. "Is there an increased risk [with family history]? It depends. There's no clear answer to that question."

Jail Time? So What! Lindsay Lohan's Brand Has Nowhere to Go But Up

Another stint in jail won't help or hurt Lindsay Lohan's brand. TERA Gold Her marketability with consumers is already so poor that even more time behind bars can hurt her more than she has already hurt herself.

"I don't think going to jail or not matters to a brand anymore with Lindsay. Any brand that was going to touch her with all of her troubles was/is going to do so regardless of whether she spends time in jail. For the most part, I think it's safe to say most brands aren't going to get close to her as there's just been too much negativity surrounding everything she does," says marketing executive Matt Delzell of the Marketing Arm. RIFT Platinum Delzell's job is to pair brands with celebrities for endorsement and licensing deals and he doesn't see much activity in that arena in Lohan's future.

On Friday, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner found Lohan in violation of probation and sentenced her to the jail time and 480 hours of community service.

In light of the latest speed bump for Lindsay, Delzell believes it is time for La Lohan to take seriously the three factors that will help her rebuild her brand.

1) Make a sincere, public apology
2) Keep your nose clean and stay out of the media spotlight for a while. Time will be on your side.
3) Have a successful project, a movie or even some charity work. Something!

Even when all three of these are checked off (and make note that none of them has been accomplished yet), rift gold it could be a case of too little, too late.

"Her brand is already tarnished and she keeps getting herself into the same messes so that it gets tarnished even more," explains Nelson Gayton, RIFT Platinum Executive Director and senior lecturer at the Center for Managing Enterprises in Media, Entertainment, and Sports at UCLA's Anderson School of Management. "She has a persona these days, but that isn't necessarily a brand."

Gayton believes that right now Lohan only brings value to a project as a star of 'Celebrity Rehab' or in a cameo in 'The Hangover the nth.' But maybe if she can complete the triumvirate of redemption above she will have a shot.

"I wouldn't say her brand is sufficiently kaput that she can't do anything about it.
Rift Gold Look at the chances the public gave Robert Downey Jr., and he's won his way with the public again," Gayton said, adding the caveat, "He is an amazing talent though, does that hold true for Lindsay? Can she get her act in order and disprove perception of her as problematic.?"

Firas Zahabi Believes Nick Diaz Fight May Be Next for Georges St-Pierre

After his fighters went 4-1 on the biggest UFC card in history on Saturday, Firas Zahabi said his biggest star's left eye will be OK – and that a champion vs. champion fight may be in his future.

Zahabi, head trainer at the Tristar Gym in Montreal, home of UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, told Ariel Helwani on "The MMA Hour" on Monday that his star pupil's left eye, which St-Pierre said he could not see out of midway through the fight onward, was not a serious injury.

But more importantly, he shed a little light on what might be next for St-Pierre after his decision welterweight title win over Jake Shields in the UFC 129 main event in Toronto. Zahabi believes St-Pierre might get Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz.

"We haven't sat down to talk about (what's next)," Zahabi told Helwani. "I'm sure the UFC is going to want Nick Diaz. He deserves a shot. He's put on great performances and his last fight was extremely exciting."

Talk for a while has been that if St-Pierre beat Shields, he might move up to middleweight to challenge Anderson Silva. Silva next defends his title against Yushin Okami this fall in Rio de Janeiro. But Zahabi said not so fast on GSP moving up – though he wouldn't rule it out.

"If Georges went up (to 185) right now, he wouldn't have cleaned out the division because there's still Nick Diaz there," Zahabi said. "He's champion, so you can't say he doesn't deserve a shot. RIFT Platinum I can't confirm anything, but I see it as a possibility. They have two champions. It's always exciting to see two champions go at it. He has a great style. He has beautiful boxing, great jiu-jitsu, and it's very similar to his brother. It's not easy to fight a tall, lanky guy like that. And he's always very busy. It's a whole different style than Jake."

UFC president Dana White said in Toronto that despite Diaz's Strikeforce contract, which also has to do with Strikeforce's Showtime deal, the GSP-Diaz fight is one he could make if he wanted to. White also said he planned to go to Stockton, Calif., where Diaz lives, to talk through some possibilities with him. Zuffa, parent company of the UFC, purchased Strikeforce earlier this spring.

On Saturday, St-Pierre won a unanimous decision against Shields, 50-45, 48-47, 48-47. And Zahabi said he isn't sure how two judges gave two rounds to Shields.

"He knocked Jake down in the fourth round, so I have to give that round to Georges," Zahabi said.
Rift Gold "The first three, I gave to Georges. The last one was up for grabs, so I could see them giving that to Jake."

But Zahabi was quick to point out to critics of St-Pierre again not finishing an opponent that it's much tougher than it looks.

"How many guys finish Jake Shields?," Zahabi asked. "You're fighting such a high-caliber guy – the guy's won 15 fights in a row. Who else has won 15 in a row? The guys you're going to name are the pound-for-pound best. Believe me when I tell you, both guys were trying to finish the fight and both guys were firing on all cylinders. People thing these guys are cruising, nobody's cruising in there.

"People want to see something spectacular and something flashy. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. These guys are well trained. rift gold It's not easy to put them in a compromised situation. You saw full well, Georges threw how many overhand rights – with too much on them, in my opinion? And that's because he was trying to knock him out."

Zahabi said doctors ruled out a torn retina in St-Pierre's left eye, and that he believes it will be recovered 100 percent within 10 days. Zahabi said despite video replays showing an open-handed strike by Shields may have been what caused the damage to St-Pierre's eye, he doesn't believe it was intentional.

"I don't think it was intentional," Zahabi said. "It happens in MMA because of the gloves. RIFT Platinum It just happens. I knew Georges would stick it out. He told me several times he couldn't see out of the left eye. But he's not going to give up."

Zahabi also picked up wins with John Makdessi, Ivan Menjivar and Rory MacDonald on Saturday night. TERA Gold His only loss was Yves Jabouin, who was submitted by Pablo Garza's Submission of the Night bonus flying triangle choke.

Zahabi now goes to work with former WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres for his fight against Demetrious Johnson at UFC 130 on May 28.
