By Jackson Leung (Mepath), OnRPG Tech WizardIt was Sunday night. My brother and I decided to go to our usual gaming stop; a cyber-cafe on the outskirts of town. It seems like those are the only places you can find them anymore. We were brimming with excitement over this new zombie game called Dead Island. It wasn't long before we fired the game up and assumed our digital identities.I became Xian Mei, the daughter of a Hong Kong inspector, smart, lethal, and deadly. Who, due to the unfortunate circumstance of being a female in a male dominated society, had her talents squandered by being sent to this island resort to observe for criminal activity. Curses. My brother assumed the identity of Sam B. An African American rap star (yes, he's American, the game said he grew up in New Orleans). It was business as usual,预防近视笔, I was partying it up at the resort. After a hard night of partying, I washed down some pills with my liquor and passed out on my bed.I woke up the next morning, did my routine,防近视眼笔, and on the way out, there was something definitely wrong. The hotel's halls were littered with suitcases. Some of these suitcases were randomly dispersed across the floor. Some of these suitcases were piled on top of each other, and some of these suitcases were made into a wall, but for what? I pondered this question as I emptied the suitcases of their contents into my pockets-of-infinite-storage.It was weird, there were hotel rooms left open, blood stains everywhere,防近视笔, and even dead bodies. It must have been some wild party. It was weird, but I was late for work. I took the elevators down, when suddenly; it came to an abrupt stop. The power went out. A sound. The elevator started plummeting down. The doors flew open, and I saw, a person lying on the floor. He was surrounded by people with gray, ashy skin, their bodies showing wounds that by any medical standards were lethal. Seconds later, I noticed that they had said man's intestines in their hands, and in their mouths. At the same moment, these cannibals took great interest to me, and started running towards me. Not a weapon in hand, stuck inside an elevator, and seeing these hoards of blood-thirsty gray people running towards me. I thought it was the end, I'm too young and beautiful to die; tear. The elevator door slammed shut, another sudden drop, and the lights came back on. A voice from the camera offered help. They said I had to run into some maintenance room and obtain a weapon. It's the only way I'm going to live. Shortly afterwards, the elevator opened, and I was at the lobby.I don't know where the maintenance room was, but I'm going to get there quick. Right after I empty these suitcases I found of their contents. But I didn't have enough time for that. It wasn't long until these gray people, which I'll call zombies, took notice of me. I ran as fast as I could, I saw a door leading to a room that didn't look like a hotel room. I made a beeline for it. I ran in front of the door, and then I dove inside. When I came to, I was surrounded by people who were about to knock my head off with a bat. It wasn't until I proved to them that I was capable of coherent thinking that they left me alone. Apparently, I am one of the few people who are immune to the virus, and one of the few people that can be bitten, and not show the same symptoms as everyone else. Sam B is another person with this mixed blessing. The once tropical paradise is now a living zombie nightmare.Together Sam and I took our first steps out into the world of Dead Island. Taking on requests by the islanders in hopes that we can help obtain and accomplish whatever they need to help us get off the island. It wasn't long before Sam and I were bashing in zombie skulls with whatever we could get our hands on. We had to resort to the oars from a boat, a shovel stabbed into the sand, and a kitchen knife pulled fresh from a downed zombie just to name a few of our odd ball weapons. Of course the zombie waves were endless and these primitive weapons wore out to a state of uselessness quickly. We've recovered access cards, rescued wives, recovered medicine, salvaged car parts, and whenever we had a moment of rest, we'd improve our weapons. Whenever we came across some tools left out on some table, we'd use them to strengthen our weapons. Anything even resembling a weapon would quickly fall into our infinite-pockets!We were on the way to restore the lighthouse power generator so that ships out at see can come to our rescue when we heard the sound we both dreaded the most. "Sorry guys, we're now closing. Please log out. I hope guys had fun." We grudgingly logged off the computers and proceeded home, excitedly sharing our thoughts of the game. We will definitely be playing this game again, in fact, I already bought two copies for our home PCs!I am a huge zombie genre fan. So this review reflects mainly my opinion, and will be biased. I have a strong preference for George A. Romero zombie films and Dead Island sucked me into a world just like Romero would have imagined. This game is like a mix of Dead Rising, Dead Rising 2, Left 4 Dead, Resident Evil, and Grand Theft Auto. It had the need to obtain weapons, these weapons also get worn down and break, just like Dead Rising. It had the ability to mess with your weapons, just like Dead Rising 2. It had the zombies chasing you like Left 4 Dead, but unlike left 4 dead, avoided the campy unrealistic occurrence of sudden hordes of zombies arriving. You kind of have venture into areas where zombies are located for them to take notice of you, and then the chasing starts. Finally, there's the atmosphere of Resident Evil. You don't feel like you're going to die any time soon, but you're always concerned that something might kill you. There might be something around the corner, behind that bush, behind you! At the same time, not only are you scared of being killed, you're scared of wasting your precious weapon's durability on killing the damn thing. Finally it resembles GTA in that you can steal and take whatever you need to survive with little worry of legal repercussions.I loved everything about this game, and in my book, this is a must play game for any zombie fan. It's a good single player game, but to get the full experience you MUST play it with friends. Some people say that this game brings nothing special to the table, but really, I'm not sure if there has been another zombie-genre game that has fulfilled this zombie-fan-gamer's desires any better. Dead Rising was great when it came out, Left 4 Dead was intense, and Resident Evil kept me awake at night, but this game has a whole different feel altogether! I feel like I've been on that island, and I've slain those zombies, and I desperately need to get back to the game so that Xian and Sam can leave that island! They need me!The Verdict: Play me now (10/10)* zombies* visuals* sound*zombie bros* atmosphere* realism* open-world environment*zombie room service* their first trailer* the list goes on...* I can't really think of any. Perhaps if the graphics were more realistic, then when that day comes where I finally bash my computer screen in after losing a match of Starcraft, I could use Dead Island as a reactionary excuse.I'm always lurking the forums and redesigning OnRPG. Feel free to say hi.

Starcraft 2 Journey To Diamond League
。
。
Being in bronze league means you will rarely play epic matches because they are often full of all-ins and cheese. This means they will pump out units very early and not focus on developing a good economy. I play as a Zerg who is not very aggressive early on and hopes to create longer macro oriented games. This means that I will quickly setup multiple expansions and develop many workers early on to maintain many bases. Army units are seldom built until later on unless necessary to counter an aggressive opponent.。
。
I was sure I had lost the game because almost all my drones at my expansions were gone but thankfully he was still on one base. He did not quit coming at me with banshees and eventually Vikings, so I thought it was a good idea to build some mutalisks. This way I could harass his only base which would drastically reduce his income and kill off his air army. With my ground and air army, I marched to his base, broke his wall and went right for the starports. I did not want to fight more air units, I hate them. He conceded after losing his starports.。
。
Be sure to check out Kluey's Starcraft II Review if you're not familiar with the game! http://www.onrpg.com/MMO/Starcraft-II/review/Starcraft-2-Wings-of-Liberty---RTS-Perfection。
I was minding my own business mining on my three bases when the Terran decided to send some banshees my way. Keep in mind that unlike Terran and Protoss, Zerg have limited options to counter air early on. Air units appear frequently in bronze league so I built some evolution chambers early on just in case. These allow me to build spore crawlers which are the static air defense for the Zerg race.。
This is the beginning of a new series here at OnRPG, “My Journey to Diamond League”. These bi-weekly articles will record my matches and progress in Starcraft II. My goal is to advance from the bronze league to diamond. Due to the length of this article, the first column will be split into a 2 part series.。
。
。
。
After watching MLG, I hopped back on Starcraft and used some of the new tricks I learned from the players and streamers. Now I am rank 8 bronze in my division, this is where my journey will begin.。
。
My final game this week was against another Terran. After learning that I should always scout with overlords and run up his ramp from time to time, I saw that he was just getting mass marines and marauders. I later found out he also had tanks. Since he was only on one base, I had a big economic advantage. He did not bother attacking early on, as most people do when on one base so I went ahead and setup four bases.。 。
I believe that I am good at video games. I can rank high in various genres including FPS,MMO and MOBA. What makes Starcraft different from the other genres is that you must manage more than one unit at a time. My one gaming weakness is multitasking; hopefully I will improve by playing Starcraft II.。
。
。
。
。
His marine, marauder and tank army was no match for my roaches and banelings. While he did hold steady through my first assault, I was able to reinforce my army because of my massive income from four bases. The second assault overwhelmed his remaining defenses.。
While it is true that I have not played a lot of Starcraft before, I did play a couple of hours of Starcraft II when I bought it a couple months ago. I did not find myself playing it a lot because I was not enjoying myself. After seeing the pros play at MLG with their incredible speed and unique play styles, I was tempted back to the league.。
By Mohammad Abubakr, OnRPG Journalist。
。
。
。
。
If an opponent is aggressive early on and continues attacking the same base it is considered to be an all-in. If I am able to hold off these acts of aggression, I will be able to overrun him with high quality massed units produced by my stronger economy. Sometimes opponents are smart and continue to develop an economy while forcing you to build army units to hold off attacks. This results in them getting ahead of you economically while throwing you off your game. This seldom happens in Bronze league because this league consists of new and less skilled players.。
My second game that same day was versus a Terran. While he did have a good plan to harass me with reapers it was not well executed on the micro level. He stood around with his reapers for too long to the point where I could easily fend off any harassment. Since he only focused on constructing one base and poked me ineffectual harassment, I continued to develop my economy. I achieved victory by destroying his main base with zerglings and banelings. I might have lost the game if he attacked me with his reapers because I was not building an army at that time. Keep in mind that reapers can jump over walls, so he could have easily harassed me multiple times without losing any units.。
。
。
。
The ranking system is divided into seven leagues. These are bronze, silver, gold, platinum, diamond and masters. You might notice that I have only listed six; we will come to the seventh league later on. You may be promoted to these leagues based on your hidden matchmaking rating. This rating goes up or down depending on your matches. It does not increase by a set value so it is nearly impossible to calculate. A victory over a better opponent will award you with more points while a loss to a worse opponent will result in losing more points. When you begin the game, you must play five placement matches. Your initial rank will be decided based on your performance throughout these games. You may not view your win to loss ratio until you achieve master’s league. Also, each league is divided into separate divisions which each include 100 players. The final league is called the grandmasters league and this league only includes the 200 top players on the server which are selected by Blizzard.。
When I first did my placement matches I was surprisingly placed in silver league but due to my lack of knowledge, I got kicked down to bronze. That is the point at which I quit playing because I was busy with other games but frustration might have been a factor. I do not like losing.。
。
Two days later I was put up against a Terran. I almost pulled an Idra (In case you did not get the reference, Idra is a professional player that left a won game because he thought he was behind.)。
。
My opponent tried his best to delay his inevitable defeat by hiding buildings and setting up a lot of static defense. If he was really in such a hurry to progress to his next game, he should have surrendered sooner because the writing was on the wall early on.。
In simplest terms, Starcraft II is a game where the player must build up an army to take out his opponents buildings. Once all buildings have been destroyed the player loses. However, games will rarely get to the point where you are destroying all buildings. Players simply concede upon realizing the game is lost.。
。
。
I employed one of the key strategies in Starcraft II during my first game; build up a good economy. My opponent was also a Zerg player but he did not want to develop his economy. His aim was to end the game quickly so he can move on to another match. Since bronze players often try to finish games quickly, I had setup static defense in the form of spine crawlers. His zerglings fell one by one to my superior defensive structures while my army of workers brought in huge hauls of crystal. I used this to my advantage and continued to enhance my own economy.。
。
。
。
。
。
Now, let us dive right into the games.。
。
。
I am not happy that I did not gain any ranks this week. I was busy with school exams so I did not have a lot of time to play Starcraft. In part 2 I will cover my second week and the beginning of my rise to Silver League! Look forward to seeing it early next week!

Rusty Hearts First Impressions
By Michael Sagoe (Mikedot), OnRPG JournalistPerfect World Entertainment is laying some new cards on the table with their newest title, Rusty Hearts. Developed by Windysoft and Stairway games, Rusty Hearts combines full-3D arcade beat ‘em up action, while mixing things up with a solid anime and manga art style. As slick and sexy as this one looks, arcade action MMOs are becoming more common these days. It’s now increasingly difficult for any new ones to stand out. Rusty Hearts isn’t showing signs of being timid though and is geared up with enough reflectors and flashy effects to make it stand out from a million miles away.It sure seems like style is the main essence of Rusty Hearts, because just from the login screen alone, I was blasted with a sense of awe and wonder. Once I selected my server and channel, the stars of the show slowly started walking past the screen.Leading the troop of heroes was Frantz Kruger, a suave swordsman who’s half human, half vampire. Following Frantz was Angela Strraugend, a peppy witch that uses possessed great swords and scythes. Last one behind the group was Tude MacCloud. Sounds like your typical everyman, but Tude uses gauntlets and claws to tear his enemies a new one.And from the group of heroes, you could see the misty shadow of another, currently unplayable female character. She already has her name up and such, so I assume she will join these heroes soon enough.Though I was leaning towards Angela, I decided to give Frantz a go for my first couple of runs. Right from the get-go, the game attempts to immerse me into the world with a story cutscene showcasing Frantz and the gang fleeing from a huge monster. After that, it was mandatory tutorial time!Getting a grip on the game’s controls was no biggie, as the control scheme felt and played similar to another popular action MMO. Midway during the tutorial, I decided to whip out my PS2 controller and USB converter to give the gamepad functions a try. Surprisingly, the gamepad function worked out great (for the most part) with the only issue being the dodge stick wasn’t mapped properly (pressing down on the stick made my character dodge left, pressing up made me dodge left, etc.) It seems to me that gamepad support was made with Xbox 360 controllers in mind first. Regardless, this little error can easily be fixed if they would give us the option to re-map control functions manually. There seems to be a huge focus on story telling here, which I can’t really say I’m fond of since there seems to be no voice acting during cutscenes, making things a bit difficult to keep up with. Just a little bit of voice acting during the major cut-scenes would be nice and would help out with the story telling, since I won’t have to squint my eyes towards the bottom right hand corner of the screen. But enough about storytelling, let’s focus on what matters: The gameplay. While the game has a pretty unique flair, it was really hard for me to play through this one without having that other popular arcade action MMO pop into mind: Tapping the basic attack button performs a short and easy combo. While using the skills assigned from A-through-H at the right time, I was able unleash longer combo strings and juggles with ease. You can jump and perform attacks in mid-air, but they’re kind of ineffective, so I didn’t really use them as much. I am fond of the subtle defensive option of being able to block attacks and counter attack when guarding at the right moment.Unlike some action MMOs where you’re stuck fighting on a 2D plane, Rusty Hearts makes use of the 3D environments for some light exploration and interactivity. The dungeons I trekked through and the monsters I faced seemed pretty average at first, but I pressed onward just to check out more of what the game had to offer. This one boss battle had me fighting against a giant lobster monster that was tearing up platforms and such. The best way of taking it out was to freeze it using some kind of ice cannon, but you had to be quick about firing off the shot, otherwise you would get frozen in the process.Needless to say, it was an intense and frustrating battle. After several dungeon runs, things were getting a bit stale, but the experience picked up for me once I hit LV10, at which point I was already decked out with some awesome skills. I was able to switch up my character’s weapon style at LV10, trading in my light sword for a heavy but powerful axe. It was also time for me to jump into some PvP action! Rusty Hearts’ PvP features a handful of everyday gameplay modes such as Free-For-All, team deathmatch, tag team, ladder match, etc. Starting up a game is quick and easy with its own neat little interface, plus matches are hosted in your very own room. After several matches in Free-For-All and Tag Team, I got a general feel for the character balance. Tude players can use juke movements to hone in, pressure and punish enemies. Angela players can keep enemies at bay using a bevy of magic attacks at close and mid-range, and Frantz players will go all out by juggling enemies like crazy.Overall, I’d say Rusty Hearts is shaping up to be pretty stellar experience. If they can deliver an interesting story along with challenging gameplay, Rusty Hearts could very well be the next top contender for action MMOs, pouring with style and substance. For more information on Rusty Hearts check out our Game Profile for some Developers Diary videos and ColbyCheeze's impressions!

Diablo III Countdown Character Classes
By Remko Molenaar (Proxzor), OnRPG JournalistFrom now on I will be writing a series of articles until the release of Diablo 3. I will be talking about several features in the game that are quite unique and aren’t used in many role playing games. Diablo is a known franchise made by Blizzard Entertainment and is popular because of its unique role playing hack and slash game style. Diablo 2 has been a very popular game throughout the years and still has a solid community playing it every day. Now the question is ‘What will make Diablo 3 much better than its previous title’? I will give you an introduction about the many aspects Diablo 3 has announced, and show you what might make this game one of the best role playing games ever released. The game was first confirmed on June 28 in 2008 and since then a lot of videos and screenshots have shown us some jaw dropping features that every RPG fan has been waiting for since the invention of MMOs.. In the first series I will be talking about the story and the current announced classes in Diablo 3.The game takes place in Sanctuary, this is the dark fantasy world known in the Diablo series. This world was saved twenty years prior by a handful of unnamed heroes in Diablo 2. Warriors that have survived the onslaught brought by the armies of the Burning Hells have gone mad from their ordeals. It is now up to the new generation of heroes to face the forces of evil threatening the world of Sanctuary.Diablo 2 was known to have the following classes: The Amazon,福州贷款, Necromancer,福州担保, Barbarian,福州担保公司, Sorceress and Paladin. Later in the expansion the Druid and Assassin were introduced into the world of Diablo 2. There are currently five classes announced for Diablo 3 but there might be more added into the game. The current five announced classes are the:The Witch Doctor is a new character reminiscent of the Diablo 2 Necromancer, but his skills are different and are more associated with the voodoo culture. The Witch Doctor has several abilities that make this class a lot of fun to play. The class is able to summon monsters, cast curses, harvest souls and hurl poisons plus explosives at his enemies. Blizzard stated the following about the Witch Doctor,福州担保公司, “The Witch Doctor is not another version of the Necromancer.” They may incorporate the Necromancer in a future expansion if they so desire. To power spells the Witch Doctor uses mana, which regenerates slowly.Video youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMbagdEF1tc The Barbarian is an original class played in the previous Diablo games and is known for his close combat fighting style. The Barbarian is a powerful melee fighter with several powerful skills that makes sure the player is always engaged in life and death action. This class is capable of dual-wielding weapons and his combat masteries allow him to specialize in different types of weapons. The Barbarian is able to use several awesome skills and powerful strikes such as whirlwind and leaping strikes. The Barbarian uses fury as his energy resource, which is generated by attacking enemies, getting attacked by enemies and through several abilities. Fury degenerates when not in a combat state.Video Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byy723gTSQQ The wizard is a changed version of the sorceress in Diablo 2. The Wizard has abilities involving casting lightning, fire and ice at their enemies, often resulting in terrible status effects. They are also able to slow time and teleport which makes this class quite versatile. The Wizard fuels his spells with Arcane Power. Arcane Power is a fast regenerating power source that will help the Wizard with his spells.Video Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbsODnb1VYo When you will think about the Monk you would probably think about a healing supporting class. This is not the case in Diablo 3; the monk is a melee close combat fighter specializing in martial arts. The Monk is able to cripple foes, resist damage, deflect projectiles, and attack with a blinding speed and land explosive killing blows. It combines the Diablo 2 assassin class with the holy warrior role of the Paladin. The Monk is fueled by Spirit, which has defensive purposes and is slowly generated through attacking, though it does not degenerate which makes this a powerful melee fighter to watch out for.Youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31VpcWV2R9E The Demon Hunter is a class that uses crossbows as its main weapon; they are also able to throw small bombs at enemies as a means of defensive CC. Some of the skills have been revealed and among them is the arrow skill, Chain Arrow. The Demon Hunter is fueled by Discipline and Hatred. Hatred is a fast regenerating source that is used for his offensive attacks while Discipline is a slow regenerating resource used for defensive abilities.Video Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6_eZgxWU24 Currently we haven’t seen everything about every class yet. We have seen some gameplay videos but it’s clear that Blizzard has quite a few tricks still up their sleeves. Since no Diablo III release date is announced yet, I still have time to bring you updates sharing the tid bits being thrown out to appease the masses. The current list of classes however look superb and I cannot wait to try them out. Every class has its unique style of playing that makes this game a different experience with each character you play.Next article I will be discussing the extensive rune concept of Diablo III and how it can completely overhaul your skills!

Gamers like to play God, it seems, as Ubisoft confirms its new God game, From Dust, has set a new sales record for the publisher. According to Ubisoft, the game sold more copies on its first day on sale than any previous digital title from the French publishing giant. Without providing exact figures, the firm says day-one sales of From Dust beat the company's former best-selling XBLA title by a margin of 45 percent. The game sees players take the roll of a deity capable of manipulating the land, which you must do to help your tribes thrive and protect them from an abundance of natural disasters. The game received rave reviews across the board (except from Destructoid) prior to its July 27 release. Mike Jackson

A job ad tweeted by Clint Hocking, formerly of Ubisoft and currently creative director at LucasArts, has revealed the company is working on a new open-world RPG. The job listing doesn't give much away other than the genre of the game, although it asks for console development experience so a PlayStation and Xbox release is a safe bet.The last game to be released from LucasArts' game development team was Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2, which was met with less than stellar review scores.Hocking previously served as Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and Far Cry 2 creative director before leaving the company for LucasArts last April.
